Little Sturgis???
I need opinions about little sturgis in Kentucky. My riding partner and I are thinking about heading that way in 2008 and would like to know all there is to know (good or bad) about this rally...hot spots, things to see, places to go, things to avoid, good hotels, great watering holes etc...

I have not been there but a friend that was there said (in his words) "It's a pretty rough rally". I understand that could mean different things to different folks........just sayin.

I haven't been in about 5 years so keep in mind that change happens. That being said, it was a good time.
The rally area is in the county fairgrounds so everything is contained. There is a road around the perimeter that is wheel to wheel around the clock. People watching at the road is one of the main things. Burn out, flashers, etc.
Because it's contained inside a fence, it gets really crowded. You'll need to arriver VERY early to get a good camping spot. You can find hotel info on their website but I'd bet that anything within 60 miles is already sold out.
Sturgis is in a dry county. You can bring alcohol in, but you'll have to travel to buy any.
A spillover event is the Old Shawneetown Street Rally that's about 30 miles away in Shawneetown IL. It's on the same weekend and put on by the guys who run the Hogrock rally. ( www.hogrock.com). I haven't been to this one but I understand it's a pretty good time. For that matter, Hogrock is bigger, wilder and generally not as confined as Little Sturgis.

I went in 2006, missed 2007, and plan to attend 2008.
- Hot Spots? You go to the Union County Fairgrounds, park your bike, pitch your tent, and party for a few days.
- Things to see? Bring a chair and you can sit and party while watching just about anything you may or may not want to see.
- Places to go? The barn is air conditioned and a cool place to drink during the hot afternoon and when the bands are playing.
- Things to avoid? Unless you are a member of the HA, ya might not want to wander into their area. It is clearly marked.
- Good Hotels? Sorry, can't help you with hotels. I've only been riding for a little over 40 years and am way too young to have to "trailer in" or "hotel it."
- Great watering holes? The rally grounds are one huge party. We took some beer with us to walk around and check out the party in other camp sites, and ended up bring most of our beer back to camp because everywhere we went, folks kept offering us beer.
Bottom line: If you want to party with about 20,000 of the nicest folks you ever want to meet, go check it out. If you want to ride during the day and go to bars at night - you may find Sturgis, SD more to your liking.
Having been to the Little Sturgis Rally once and Sturgis, SD nine of the past twelve years, I have to say that the party at the Little Sturgis Rally is far more fun!
Another way to look at it: Last year I camped at the Buffalo Chip at Sturgis, SD (it cost about $300 to camp) and had a great time --- but if I had to pick between a week at the Chip and a weekend at the Little Sturgis Rally ($40 to camp), I would pick the Little Sturgis Rally.
....and, the free showers at the Little Sturgis Rally had HOT water versus cold water at the Buffalo Chip.

Thanks for the info, that's what I'm looking for. My buddy and I rode up to Sturgis, SD. last year and had a pretty good time. About my only complaint were the harrassing cops....you couldn't fart without getting a ticket. It sounds as though so long as I don't end up in the HA's snakepit, the place in general is a good time. BTW, if I had it my way we would camp...momma say otherwise.

I attended the Little Sturgis rally in 2006. As Snobal said, the party is inside the campground and that is pretty much where everyone stays. As long as you stay inside the campground anything goes. You can party till you puke and have a free show every night. Just DONT LEAVE THE CAMPGROUND if you've been drinking.

Sturgis SD Chamber sues Sturgis Kentucky
When will the greed stop? It's killing the rally.

I live here and I feel sorry for everyone that comes here and gets gouged just to have some fun.
