So What Is Sturgis Like The Week After The Rally

Not sure if I can go during the rally week, my question is , is Sturgis still a party town or a ghost town the week after ?

Well, the roads are less traveled, the vendors are wrapping up their exhibitions and rubbish is being carted away.

There may also be a few participants being released from jail, but other than that, give it a shot! What do ya got to lose! Have fun too! ennis

This past year they were taking down on Saturday night which really surprized me. Sunday looked like a ghost town.

There is ALOT to do in the Hills the week(s) following The Rally. 1000% better riding after The Rally as well. Go and enjoy yourself.

Ditto that,we came in on the Monday after last year and had a great time.
Got a nice room up in Keystone for only $50 a night and the riding was the best.
After 5 times going during the event this was my favorite trip.
I'm not big on the party thing anymore so it was all good for me,Sturgis it self was pretty dead but we've been there done that so it didn't mater.
There were still quite a few bikes up in the hills and keystone was still a happening place but not crazy like the week before.

Ha..!! It's kinda like at the end of a parade that's had a bunch of animals in it...a bunch of guys picking up $hit!! The hills are covered with tents, bed-rolls and stuff that people just walk off and leave. They're moving used cars and such into the Broken Spoke's lot. By the end of the week it's back to Sturgis, SD normal USA. Ginger should know better than anybody, she resides there. I've been thru there a couple times over the years just to say "Hi" to some locals I've made friends with over the many years. Maybe that would be a good time to meet with Ginger at the sidehack.. LoL!!! Ginger I'll be the guy in the black thong and high green socks. LoL!!!

I would go the week before. Lots of folks go early to the Rally and vendors setting up earlier and earlier. There is a party atmosphere at just about every place you go and if you leave out on the Sunday at the begining of the bike week you still get to see Sturgis and all the rally before you leave. Plus most of the traffic will be heading into Sturgis as you are heading out and back home.

Talking

texan: it was GREEN socks and a black leather thong......LOL. trust me, if you show up at the side hack wearing that the week AFTER the rally, you will stand out like a sore thumb. people would probley point and laugh...

not sure if you ventured to the side hack this year, but we had santa claus and mrs claus all decked out, and santa, who runs/owns a adult novelty store, passed out "presents" to the wimmen folk. then we did a rope crawl to the dungeon where we stood on the balcony and he threw out anal ease. i am surprised at how many peope wanted the free anal ease, but hey, what ever turns them on ya know

This is the way I have done it. Nice riding and no sitting in lines. It is a constant flow of bikes and trailers going to the rally on our way home. I have never been there during the rally and this might be the year I give it a try. (maybe a long weekend)

I know a guy that grew up in Sturgis. His mother still lives there. It is a quiet small town after the rally. His mom sends him t-shirts for all of us after the rally as they were so cheap. The town makes a bundle of money during the rally. I plan on going there but not during the rally as I don't like the crowds myself.

Sturgis is like everyother town other than rally time. I lived in Rapid City for a while and been to Sturgis every month of the year.

Nah, from what I hear this ain't true. The fellow that use to own the home we stay at every year was on the City Council for numerous years. He and I use to visit over coffee every mor'n talking about the rally. We were discussing the fees, taxes and such one mor'n. The Town of Sturgis doesn't really get that much $$$$ out of the rally. The State is the one that makes a killing.

I know several years ago Junction street was just a two lane road. They came thru and widen the road, put in the center lane, (basically for emergency vehicles) cut out a WHOLE bunch of trees and replaced the sidewalks. THAT's about the only Town improvements in the 20 years I've been going.

I am not a big crowd person. But I never felt it was to bad at the Rally. Must places are staffed pretty good. I don't remember waiting for much. I like going during the rally, just to see it. All the bikes, chicks, weird things.

I may go earlier, if I could save on motel. They do screw you on motels. I just pass through though, 1-2 nights. Last year stayed in Deadwood, probably stay there again.

Anybody know what the break point is for motels, when do they go up?

Next time you're there, check out all the required permits the vendors need to set up business. Unbelievable! Give them time and they'll find more reason to add more permits.
