Houston to Sturgis-- Wichita????????
Houston to Sturgis-- My GPS says from Wichita take Hwy 35 to Kansas City North on Hwy 29 to Hwy 90 and then West to Sturgis. That is 125 miles further then going through Wichita to Hwy 70 west to 283 and then North to Hwy 90. Is 283 a slow going farm road or can you make some good time on it?
Thanks in advance. Everyone have a safe trip--see you there.

Yeah you can go a lot of different ways the gps is probably trying to keep you on major roads,I have a year old copy(july 06) of ride texas magazine where the author took 287 towards amarillo hit 83 took it all the way to I90. He says in the article it was a good road ,but get used to seeing lots of corn and wheat fields. We live in ft worth using mapquest it shows that as the shortest route, shows I35 up as the quickest route ,which is what your gps shows, the direction we are going is 287 to amarillo then raton NM,head north through denver to cheyenne WY,this route adds about 80 miles to the trip but will get a little more scenery and avoids all the helmet states. We are leaving early friday morn on the third if you want to hook up and ride Pm me,but we are leaving around 4 am so we get to amarillo around lunch time..ride safe see ya up there week and a half yahoooo..Tom.

Thanks for the invite, but Im leaving on the 29th. Spend a couple of days there then over to Wisconsin. Should be about a 3800 mile trip.
Ride safe

Hey gary ... if you decide on the KC route ... I live in the KC area and let me offer some advice .... when you come up I-35 and get to the KC area in Olathe, Kansas take the 435 North exit to get up to I-29. If you continue on I-35 N it will take you directly thru town, downtown and all the traffic this city has to offer. 435 N will take you north clear around the west side of the city and merges into I-29 up by the KCI airport. 435 N takes you out into the country (even tho it's an interstate loop, 3-4 lanes at 70mph limit) and it's actually a nice ride. Goes by Cabelas and the Kansas Speedway NASCAR track (you can see it from the road). The only jerks you'll run into here are cagers that are late for their flight at KCI and are going 90mph to make it. I don't know about 283, but my best guess is that it's 2 lane blacktop and probably not slow. Maybe a slow moving hay truck or tractor once in a while. Good luck, ride safe and I wish i was going

I think I saw you there the year before last, or maybe it was your brother, he had a black Harley and levis too.

After looking everything over again, I'm going through Amarillo and Denver also. A little cooler in the Mts. and no helmet states.

Speaking from experience, running I25 thru Denver compares to Dallas/Ft Worth or Atlanta, GA. It can be a traffic nightmare.

No such thing as way too many back roads, if you've got the time.

are the roads bad, slower speeds? I don't want to add too much time just not wanting to go highway all the way.
how much time will it cost me?
