need a rear tire on 06 Ultra

My 06 Ultra's rear tire is BALD at 10,000 miles. Is this too soon?

What brand / size tire do you fellas recommend. I ride pretty hard and pull a bunkhouse behind occasionally.

Bought the bike in March.

Stock is the Dunlop MU85B, right? 10,000 miles isn't too bad with the way you ride and pulling a trailer. I'd go with an Avon 150, personally. No mods necessary, excellent dry/wet grip, as good or better mileage.

10k is great. I would be happy to get 8000 miles on a rear tire on my 04 classic.

I've gotten about 7,500 on a rear, Dunlop and Metz. I've switched to Avon Venom front and rear.

Try the 150/80 16 in the rear... more comfortable and fills the wheel well very nicely.

Click on my signature link and then on the "tire" tab for more info.

Good luck.

One more thing... you get far better handling with the front and back tires of the same type...

Oem 10 K

10K on the OEM seems about right to me. A lot depends upon the road surface where you ride. In New Zealand for example they use this really hard and sharp gravel on the road surface. That eats tire as your corner. Riding on Interstates with cement seems to extend the tire life miles. Two up riding lowers tire miles. So many variable it is hard to determine exactly how many miles your tires will go.

And there are as many thoughts on brand X vs brand y as there are different beliefs on engine oil. There are specific tires designed for specific riding styles and road conditions. Tire selection is almost a religious experience where you've got to have certain beliefs.

I just ordered the Avon 150. Are you all sure it will fit okay?
