How low to go?

OK, I want to lower my 2000 FXST but still be able to do 2up riding without bottoming out. I'm about 180lbs and the GF is about 120lbs. How low is too low? I was hoping to go at least an 1 1/2?

Can you reach the ground now? Just my opinion but a lowered bike won't turn worth a damn. There have been times I flew into a bend way too hot. Glad my bike wasn't lowered. Would hate to get scraping and lift a tire. Of course here in FLa. now andf there are no turns here. Lots of riders just putt along also. To each his own, just something to consider,.

Flat footed? No I'm only about 5'8', only the balls of my feet reach comfortably....

You can either have a good riding bike or you can have a lowered bike. No matter what you do, if you lower it, ride quality will suffer. Especially with a passenger. That's been my experience.

I am on my second bike. I have lowered both of them. I think they handle better lower. I feel more in control. If you like to take turns at lightning speeds, you may want to consider a bike designed for that sort of thing. Back to your ?, I am 210 and my wife is 110. I dropped my 2000 Softail about 1.5 inches and only occasionally bottom out. You may have to experiment with it untill you get the exact height you are comfortable with.
