Absolutely! Your manual tells you how to set the preload correctly for your weight. Too soft and the bike wallows and wiggles in corners, too hard and it beats you on the bumpy stretches. You need to sit on the bike with you feet up on the pegs and set the preload (1 of 5 positions) so the rear suspension compresses 1/2 - 1 inch with your weight on the bike. This usually takes two people to do it. Park next to a wall or pole where you can put your feet up and hold the bike upright. Leave it in gear, enging off so it does not roll. Then get a friend to measure the distance between the upper and lower bolts on the shock. Measure with you aboard, feet on pegs, and the bike held upright with no-one aboard. Adjust until you get the correct squat measurement. You can pick up a shock adjuster wrench for about 10 bucks at almost any motor cycle dealer, HD or not. Once adjusted, leave it there unless you add a passenger, or 75-100 plus pound of additional gear.
