My old man has a 93 springer that was wrecked, everything is going back together now and he needs to get a new set of wheels. He found a great deal on craigslist but the wheels are off of a 2000 fxsts. What are the differences or will these bolt right up, I know the wheels are supposed to be 84-99, then 00-06 so Im wondering what the major differences are and what would need to be done to use the newer wheels

Eh Joker

The difference in the two sizes is approx .250" In 2000 Hd went to a larger hub flange. They mic out at about 2.2150
99 down uses a 1.98 hub flange

There are wheel adaptors made that will allow you to install a 99 & down wheel on a 2000 up hub.
They also have inverted adaptors to go from a 2000 up wheel to a 99 hub.
The bolts patterns & bolt sizes are indentical & the adaptors come in various thickness.
I know RC Components have them as I am sure other suppliers do too.
I understand the larger hub was introduced to accomodate the new sealed bearings.

Got the wheels in hand now, would imagine I could get the spacers for a 2000 up fxsts right and be good to go. The bearings are sealed 3/4" front and rear, I know they need rotors from 2000 up for the bigger hubs and I could open up the inside of the old pulley to adapt that to rear wheel for the belt or can I just run a thinner belt. I emailed rccomponets tech because I didnt see what you were talking about for adapters on their website. I actually have to check the pulley size too and see what the difference is if any. The wheels are from drag specialties (Riptide) but I cant find them on their website which Im assuming means theyre a discontinued item, so I cant find any extra info on em

I got out the camera & took a few pictures of the adaptor I was talking about, See the attached photos & youll know instantly what they look like. The one in the photo is a .250" thickness. The pulley is a RC Components Wicked Pulley 70 tooth x 1 1/8th belt. It allows you to use a 2000 up hub with a 99 down pulley. Depending on what your tire to belt spacing is will determine your adaptor thickness.

If the Riptide picture I posted matches your wheels they were made by Carriage Works out of Missouri. They no longer make wheels which is a shame because they were top of the line wheels. They got out of wheel production back around 2005-06 from what I come to understand.

Yeah those are the exact wheels, the ones he got need replating. I was wondering if itd be easier to try to find new hubs or not. Would it hurt anything to run a belt from 2000 up or is there a difference in the teeth. Everything on the wheels match minus a missing front rotor, Im waiting on some powdercoat to come back so I can attempt to mock up these wheels and see what Im working with, you know how that goes sometimes you gotta see it and put hands on it to fully understand what needs to be done to move forward. I read on another forum where they were saying you need to shave a 1/4" off the caliper mount to move it to the right for clearance. Someone else was posting you basically need everything else from a newer rear end to make it work ie the swing arm, caliper bracket, I wouldnt imagine this being that hard just get the spacing right with bigger o.d. spacers. Just need to see it and mess with it

If my memory serves me right minus the oldtimers the fella I talked to at Rc Components was Eric. Dont quote me on it but if you were to give them a call I am sure they will suit you up with the proper adaptors.
When I explained to him what I was in need of to go from the 2000hub to a 99 pulley he asked my address & shipped me the adaptor for nothing. Quite a nice gesture by him.

It would be alot cheaper than buying new hubs & besides you have the sealed bearings which are a blessing as well.
As far as the teeth on the pulley you would have to count them on your 99 pulley to see if they are the same otherwise you would be into changing final drive ratio & a different width belt if they infact vary.
I can associate with the mock up to see first hand how everything looks & fits. Its all part of doing a ground up build.

Depending on your rear riptide rim will determine the proper spacing & the size of tire you will be running. I know of moving the rim over towards the right side & getting the caliper milled but that is only needed if you want to run a 200 series tire in the back

How wide is the rear rim & what diameter?? Take yer time & it will all come together.
As far as finding a riptide frt rotor ... you may fall into one tomorrow & then again you could never find one.

I am presently trying to find a Carriage Works Rear 'Hurricane' wheel to match the one I have up frt but to no avail as of yet. If you ever come across one let me know Ill post the picture. If I ever cross paths with a Riptide rotor you'll be the first to know.

Gonna be running stock size tires unless the old man changes his mind again, problem is Were ready for assembly but he changed his mind on wheels, thought he was gonna get a stock wheel to replace the front and then he found these, theyre nice wheels dont get me wrong, its just figuring out now what I need to do to make em work. I just went out and pulled the rear pulley off cause its gonna need to be rechromed and they had a 1/4" spacer, so once I get the trans back in I can see if I need that spacer or not. Like I said I waiting on some parts from powdercoat so I can get this mocked up again to see where I need to be at and what parts im gonna need or modify

If you want you could go to a 150x16 on the rear with a 3.25 rim. Thats providing you want to.
