Ulta Tires- Michelin Opinions?
Rented a 2011 Ultra for a 4 day 2-up trip (Eagle Riders out of Costa Mesa CA- great guys) covering 1200 miles through the southwest avoiding interstates for the most part. Both wife and I both noticed that the bike seemed to ride much better than my 2010 Ultra w/factory Dunlops. and noticed that it had Michelin Commander 2 tires. Road snakes that bother the Dunlops didn't seem to have any effect on the Michelins. Same with other standard road defects.
In fairness, the roads that we were on- even the most remote- were in a hell of a lot better condition than the crap Illinois roads that we're used to, but the tires did seem to ride better. I'm due for a switch on my bike, and am seriously considering the Michelins.
Any opinions out there?

I've had Michelin Commanders on a VTX1800 I used to have. They were great tires. As far as the HD Dunlops. A set of house slippers would be better. I think the michelins will be on my short list when I get ready to purchase tires.

Get the Commander II's. Your first impression was spot on.

I have had commander IIs for more than 10,000 miles and love them great traction and stability in grooves. Still have at least 50% tread left after 10,000 miles.

Been using Metzler 880's. Not happy replacing a rear every 5000 miles. Yeah I like to ride, maybe I'll try Michelins.
BTW, gotta agree road snakes suk!! Comin outta Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondaks on Rt 4. Hit one and my ol' lady's eyes were as big as the opening on her helmet. Front wheel skippied about 6-8 inches at 65 mph.

I'm do for a new rear tire as well and considering the comm II. My only concern is whether there would be a dry-rot issue as on their passenger car tires. I only put around 4K a year on the bike so I should have them awhile if they wear as advertised.

I'm on my second set of Michlen Comander 1 and love em. They ride much better then the stock Dunlop tires on my EGC. Can't wait to try the Comander 11 tires.

I had the Commanders on my LowRider and will put them on the RG when it comes due. The only thing I noticed was the Commanders are a little noisier in the turns as the sidewall rotates into contact. Just a little hummmm.
Great tires.

i put the commando 11"s on my RGU, especially when HD told me $510 front and back for the Dunlap. I love them, now I want to see if I get at lest 15000 miles out of the rear like I got on the Dunlap
