2009 FLHT Ultra Classic
I am somewhat confused on the Dunlop D407/D408. The owners manual says it's supposed be D407's front and rear but accessorie catatlog list the tires as D407 and D408. Dealer sold me a D408 for the front. Can someone tell me the difference?
Thanks

Your bike came stock with D407's. It is still listed as the replacement tire for your bike on the Dunlop website. However, H-D has made a change over to D408's for the front due to unsatisfactory tire wear. More info on that can be found here.

My Owners Manual tire model # doesn't match my front tire. My bike production date is 04/09 and I have the D408F on the front instead of the D407F. There was a mid year change in front tires and from what I've seen and read the only difference between the 407 and 408 is the tread design is going the opposite way. I understand there was some cupping issues with the 407 in the front and a vibration issue. The 408 supposed to cure all that.

Thats exactly what happened, I had a 407 on my 09 FLHX and got a free replacement with the 408. So far I haven't heard of any problems with the 408's..... Good Luck

So far my 408 is great, only 3500 miles so far.. Have you heard any information on the 408 replacements ?? It's crazy all they do is turn tread around, was it planned.??

The 408 is as good as any tire out there as far as I'm concerned. My 407 back tire lasted almost 20,000. The front was replaced at 13,100.
I don't think there is a replacement for them yet from Metzler or any of the others.
This thread is better suited for the tire section of the forum.
Here is a thread I started.

well the real issue here... is that you need real tires.
Just put metzlers on it and be done with it. Once you roll with the elephant you'll never go back.

Well just to set the record straight we have "Real Tires". So Dunlop made an error, they still make great tires. Guys are reporting upwards of 20K on the rears. To each his own.....Besides who says Metzlers are perfect ?? Just a matter of preference.
