rear wheel install (noob)

'09 Superglide Custom, everything stock. Bought the service manual.

Just sticking my toe into the water and want to start simple. My goal is to install the chrome cover on the rear sprocket.

Removing the rear wheel looks simple enough. (Too simple actually)

Question: If I'm careful about loosening the axle adjuster nuts (i.e. same number of turns each side), then when I reinstall the wheel, is the procedure something like this?
1) Tighten both nuts the same number of turns
2) Then check belt tension according to manual.
3) Then check alignment by measuring the distance between the center of the rear axle and "rear fork hole".

In other words, can I skip the portion of the manual that calls for:
- Use a digital inclinometer to ensure front rotor is vertical.
- Loosen the stabilizer link.
- User the inclinometer on the rear rotor.
- Loosen all the motor mounts
- Run the engine
- Retighten the stabilizer link.

Seems like the extra steps would be good only if you disassembled a lot more of the bike. (The manual says something like: "Warning: Don't do this yourself.")

Thanks.

(Told ya it was a noob question!)

I don't mess with the axle adjusters (or anything else) when I remove my rear-wheel. I leave them where they were and just remove/reinstall the axle & wheel. I check the belt tension before I tear it apart and after I have it all back together.

I definitely wouldn't touch the motor mounts on that new of a bike, not while I'm R&Ring the rear-wheel...
