Wheel balancing

I have always thought new tires will need balancing weights. I had a set of wheels (complete package) sent to me. I installed them myself. I think I only have about 1500 miles on them. I took the rear tire off recently and noticed the tire had slight cupping. Upon further inspection I noticed no balancing weights on the rear or front wheel. I called the place I got the wheels from and they told me they will only put weights on them if they are out of a certain spec which he could not tell me what that spec was. I don't believe that. Is that BS or what? Like I said I have never seen a perfect tire that did not require some kind of balance wieghts. Input please!

It IS possible to have a tire/wheel combo not need any weight. But it's few and far between. I wrenched for 4 years, and did a BUTT load of tires... it's a very common job.

Most of today's machines only show the necessary weight in quarter ounce increments, as that is the smallest size they come in (.25oz, .5 oz, and 1 oz).

If I had received a complete set, I would have taken them somewhere and had them balanced, or at least verified... the place you bought them from probably didn't do it. You're going to have a hard time proving that though.

Yup, like Chopperdude said. They probably need weights. Also, tire pressure is huge. A few psi here and there and cause that cupping as well.

These Metzelers by chance? If so, common, not right, but common.

10-4

Yes...these are Metzelers. And I agree with chopperdude....I should have taken them to a shop to verify the balance. I have never had any problem with the place I got the wheels from so I didn't even think of that. I was so excited when I got the new wheels I just haulded A$$ to get them on....Foolish indeed.

You should get a couple of packets of Dyna Beads. They will balance your tires and your expensive wheels won't have any exposed weight and it won't cost any more than a tire shop balance
