Changin Rear

I think my jack will be just a smidge short to get the rear off of my Fatboy, even fully jacked up, is there a simple way to unbolt the fender to just be able to lift it up a little? Like for instance the two bolts on either side of the fender strut attaching it to the frame, or is that only a chrome cover?

Surely someone's done something a little dodgy to change tires, perhaps some other tip on removing the rear? I've read a good one on the front, in gear, kickstand on a bit of wood to make bike almost vertical (I have the perfect bit of wood for this, can't slip off) and use a standard car jack to jack up the front, but maybe someone can shed some light on the rear.

Maybe you could roll the bike onto a 2x4 to get it higher, then use your jack, shim it up as high as it'll go??????
Or....do it in the dirt, and dig a hole under the rear tire?????
(just don't get any dirt in the wheel bearings!!!)

Yeh I think even an inch will do it, we've got some planks here about 30mm thick, I'll give them a go! Thanks for the ideas!
