09 alternative tyres

Has anyone used any alternative tyres to the std Dunlops on the 09 tourer?
The stock tyres work pretty well in the dry but a couple of times when I've got caught in the rain, I gotta say, the way they suddenly lose grip on worn asphalt is concerning!
I think I'd be tempted to give up some mileage for more grip even though I'm more of a fair weather rider these days.

I would look at the Dunlop E3, it seems to be a great tire, wet or dry.

No they do not. The only OEM replacment is Avon and they should be out anyday now. I have them on backorder already.

Right now, Dunlop has the monopoly on the 2009 and up Harleys, as they are the OEM supplier and built the tires for the brand-new sizes for 2009.

However, all the other tire manufacturers, while having to play catch-up, will eventually have fitments for these bikes. It looks like Avon is going to be first to the party, but trust me when I say all the other major players (Michelin, Metzeler, etc.) will have their own versions available sometime. The reason is that they simply have to. They cannot afford to miss out on the market share.

Cheers

Just looking through the 2009 J&P catalog, they have the D407 replacement tires for the 2009 touring bikes in there.

It looks like you either have to go with HD stock or change sizes? With HD only making the front tire for 1 year how many other companies are going after such a small market?

17" is still std fitment on touring models except for a couple like FLTR,isnt it?

The E# rear radial is a pretty close match, fits the same size rim,I wouldnt think the slight difference in profile would effect handling much.Anybody tried one?
