Question help with adjusting progressive 440's

i tried a search for this but came up empty..

i just installed the progressive 440's 11.5 on my 08 street glide...
my question is how do i adjust these...every time i turn the top collar the bottom collar also turns with it....i have tried holding the bottom collar when turning also....

also how do i know it is adjusting, as i am not seeing the register marks to match up the dimples to the shock body????

i went with the 11.5 because i needed to get .5" lower to ground to be flat footed when stopped....with air i was tippie toe'd...i also changed the seat when i first got the bike to lower me, and even after the seat has broken in still was not enough drop....

any help would be greatly appreciated....
thank you in advance,
matt

Twist the top collar full turns at a time. After about 3 or 4 turns you should start to see the register marks. It does not matter if the bottom collar turns. the top one does the adjusting as it pushes the spring farther away from the top shock mount. I think 11 turn is the range of adjustment if my CRS isn't corrupting my thoughts.
EDIT: Make sure and do them both the same.

Should I grip the spring whil turning the collar or use both hands on the top collar

both hands on the top collar. it does not matter that the spring is turning that is normal. I put a mark on one of the indentations in the top collar with a marking pen and then I can keep track of how many turns I have gone from fully soft.

Didn't a set of instructions come with the shocks?

IT did. The instructions are basic of basic. They did not explain how to adjust just counterclockwise for softer clockwise for stiffer. Nor did they distinguish the makers to look for just says match dimples up to marks on shock body. And make sure both sides the same.

Good luck with them. I have the same shocks(11.5") on my bike. I'm up to the third adjustment mark, and they still bottom out when I hit a pot hole. I'm 215# and have the HD springs. I can't ride two-up with them. Not enough travel for a touring bike. I'm going back to the 13" length 440's.
