Fork oil / shock oil

Is there difference between the fork oil and the oil that is used in rear shock? Looking to play around with the oem shocks on my bagger and have not seen any listings for " shock oil " just fork oil. And does anyone know who carries it if they are different.

No Difference, Even tho some people say there is!! Use after market ( none HD ) oils. Get it at shops that cater to motocross bikes, much better quality and it comes in weights from 2.5 up to 40. You can mix it to get in between weights but stay with the same brand when you do as the different companies use different additives in their products and some times the different brands don't act right when mixed together. Just my observations and experience from doing motocross bikes for 14 years. When you play around with your shocks just keep in mind that the spring controlls the weight of the bike, the oil controls how fast the spring acts or reacts to the weight or action on the spring, ie; compression and rebound. Lighter oil quicker actions thicker oil slower actions. Hope that helps some and have fun. Rick
