Brake problem / 2 calipers & 3 rotors later ?

I have a 08 FXSTC, and have re occuring problems with my rear brake hanging up. I was just curious if anyone else has had problems with the 08 and up updated brake system? Like I put in the title I have went thru 2 calipers, and 3 rotors. I'm gonna do away with my stock brakes and go with Performance Machine, unless someone else has an idea ? Please let me know, Thanks in advance.

Hanging Up??? The part that would cause the pressure not to release is the master cylinder. That is what makes the pressure. I have also had a rear brake pedal stick mechanically, but only after I fabricated a chrome cover for the pivot area. Check the pedal for a sluggish return, if that's ok, I'd check the master cylinder. Most folks would just replace it, but after I replaced this unit, I took the old one apart and found some scoring at the end of the bore. Probably some road grime got past the boot.

Rear wheel alignment can also be a factor in the rear rotor getting hot. It doesn't have to be off by much to start bluing the rotor and the caliper isn't actually hanging up. I discovered this on my 08 FXSTBI. Look closely at the wheel track and where the belt rides on the rear pulley when moving forward. The belt should ride to the left just a little bit. Mine stopped getting hot after I realigned it.

The caliper shouldn't mis-align with the rotor, it is located by the axle. Mine had a problem with the pedal, it was sticking due to corrosion behind the plastic bushing, crimping it onto the shaft.

I agree with everyone else. Before plunking down big $$$ for a PM caliper setup, I would do a complete tear down and rebuild of the master cylinder and definitely flush the brake fluid. Give your current caliper a good cleaning, making sure that the piston's move freely. Also check the brake line going to the rear for any kinks or damage. Good luck...

The caliper and bracket do move with the axle but the bracket stop is made to the swingarm. It is designed to float on the stop but on a newer bike it is a very tight fit. I used a little dielectric grease on the stop and re-aligned and problem gone. 15 minutes and zero dollars. I'd say "Give it a shot.".
