shock oil question

Stock flhr air rear shocks ....other than adjusting air pressure would changing oil weight take the stiffness out of the ride...if so what weight oil would work best.

I have a 15 weight fork oil in mine that stiffened up the air shocks with no more bottoming out in pot holes its a firm ride solo but great two up. It would depend on the roads you travel for smooth roads maybe mix 50/50 with 10 weight and 5 weight or just try the 10 weight straight. Its not hard to change the oil once you know how. I drained mine with the rocking motion and refiled with a large horse syringe with the short air line plugged into the shock there's no need to compress the shock when refilling just squirt it in. My shocks had different amounts of oil in them from new so I felt the difference on the first ride. If the air lines leak after the oil change trim the pipes and push them all the way in with both hands and give them a little tug back to seal.
Good luck

I used Bel Ray 10 wt suspention fluid.
You can get 7.5 and even 5 wt at any Honda dealer. I'd advise against mixing them. Use what you think you need.
Its made for and by the people who make the shocks on our Harleys.

Do a search for more detailed info, its out there. Each shock should hold 10 0z each. Leave them upside down over night to empty and then pump the 10 0zs in. Pretty easy and well worth the effort.

Important note : I'm not a chemist but from every thing I've read (and I've read a lot about it) Fork oil is not Shock oil.
I've seen a lot of arguments about it either way and its just my opinion but shock oil is different from fork oil and its worth the effort to get a good quality shock specific oil.
Bel Ray and Amsoil both make a great product.

You can mix different weight oil to get a weight in between just stick with the same brand. Question? Why would shock and fork oil be different?
