A good decent mileage tire

Have been running 880 metzlers for the past 5 years and truthfully getting kind of old changing front and rear at least once a season. Did my rear this Jan. and the front last June. Time for a new front. So what is a good high mileage tire? thanks and keepem sharp

I also was kind of disappointed in my ME880. I replaced the rear with another 880 just to match up with the front, but I am think of dunlop Elite 3 next change

Put a Dunlop E3 on my Ultra today. Largley because of positive reports on handling and wear.

I've been very pleased using Avon Road Runners..

IMO better wet traction & handling. & I seem to have them on longer than the oem Dunlops........

Dunlop Elite 3s.
880-esque tread pattern, Dunlop carcas, and they reportedly wear like iron.

Well I'm not sure of the roads you run on but here in FL the roads are flat and abrasive.

I've used Dunlop & Avon and since switching to the ME 880 it gets me the most mileage and performs very well in the almost daily Florida rain.

I just replaced my original rear tire at 12000 miles. I could probably have gotten another 1000 miles out of it, but since the bike was in for service anyway I had them change it. Happy with the mileage I got out of it, and went with H-D original tires again.

But are your New Tires Fresh ??

This link is for anyone who may not be familiar with Date Codes on our tires, (bike & auto) in US have date codes when they were made.
When I get order tires if they are older than 1 year old, I send them back..

Link worked for me.. Yep it does have a boring advertisement first tho..

Date Codes & your tires, MC & Auto

Essentially it says the some retailers are selling old stock tires as new..
And lots of unsuspecting folks just don't know or check...

& for those who don't know how to read date codes.
They are the last set of numbers after the DOT marking on tires sidewall. Every US DOT tire has a date code, indicating the week & year it was made.
Example = 16 01
Would have been made the 16th week(April) of 2001
So you wouldn't want to think you're putting on a new tire, that is actually 7 yrs old since made, would ya ??

Be informed & check the tires you buy before they are installed..

It goes on to say, that latest studies are finding that a tire over 6 yrs old, has a higher chance to have a blow out (tire failure) than newer tires, as they dry-out more & more with age.

All 2000 & newer tires have 4 number date codes, any with only 3 numbers are from 1990's at least.

If this helps just one person, it was worth typing..
