Question Matching tires?

I'm about ready for a new rear. Tire, guys.....rear tire! What's the big deal about having the front and rear match? My Dunlop front is nowhere near ready to swap out yet, and I'm thinking about a Metzler for the rear this time around. Any suggestions?

I have always heard to run the same front and rear. Since tires are relatively cheap, I probably woudn't do it, however, it wouldn't bother me to do it if i needed to (hope that makes some sense).

I've got a Dunlop on front and 880 Metzler on back, it handles fine. I don't see anything wrong with running different on the street but the track is probably a another story.

Does the Michelin Commander come in a thin whitewall? If so, what is its number?

I haven't seen all Michelin's tires my 140 didn't have whitewall but the tire is great. I will be putting the same on front when I replace the front.
