Best Replacement Tire For 05 Road King

It's time to replace the original tires on my R/K Custom. What is the best all around replacement tire/brand for this application? The OEM tires seemed to work okay, but I know there is better out there.

Jeffytune is reading this now saying WTF is this?
Hi.

A Harley Tour bike uses very heavy cast tires for Weight carrying capacity's.

There are some here that will suggest tires like the Menzner 880, but if you ride two up loaded down, you will be past the weight limit of these tires.

the New Dunlop Elite III or the Michelin are two good ones approved by Harley.

Put a new Dunlop E3 on the back of my '05 RK Custom. Have about 1500 miles on it so far and it is far superior to the OEM tire. I'll never go back to the OEM.

A vote for the Avon Venoms here...

Plus, you can bump that rear up to a 150.

Couldn't be happier.

Can you bump any tire up to 150 or just with the venoms?

I had the Metz on there before the Avon Venoms... no problem, so I suppose you can do any manufacturer. The Metz 880s don't have the load rating in the 150 so I switched to the Avon.

I have info on tire sizing and pressure here if you are interested... click the tires tab.

Replacing stock tires

I own an 05 FLHT.
The stock Dunlops seem too hard for my liking. May be good for mileage but not sticky enough. So, I changed the rear to a Metzler 880. I like the way it behaves better than stock. The stock tire locks up too easily under quick stops and even when I gear down sharply. The Metzler never did that!!!
However, I find a downside to the 880- It wore out in 10000 kms(6000 miles)
All my miles are highway.
I weigh in at 270 lbs and pack around 100 lbs of luggage.
I got 50% more out out of stock. While I like a stickier tire there must be a compromise between the two.
Any further thoughts??

I like the Avons better than the Michellins, they seem to hold the road better.

I just put a 160/80/16 Me880 on my 06 flhx without any fitment issues. Much better than the stock Dunlops!

Avon Venom X have the load rating and the nice handling. My RKC has white walls, and they have them too.
