Anyone installed a grease zerk in their neck to grease bearings?
Is there any place on the web or does anyone know the right way to install a grease zerk on the neck to keep the bearings greased. Last time I had the front end apart to pack the bearings I noticed that the neck is not sealed, meaning there is a hole in neck that would allow grease to enter the down tube and the backbone. down into the frame I know I would have to seal this hole up but not sure the best way to do it. Also, if I drill and tap a hole to install a grease zerk, where's the best place to locate it? If anyone has done this before and can give me some insight on the procedure, I would really appreciate the help. It's total B.S. that HD doesn't do this anymore. BTW, the bike is a 2004 Wide Glide.
Thanks,
rpbrock

as does my 05 RG on the left side of the neck (a bitch to get at).
Perhaps yours fell out...? Or got missed during setup?
In the RG discussions (here or another HD forum) there's mention of putting in a 90-degree zerk to make it easier to reach.

That's weird that yours doesn't have one. I guess because it's easier to take that style front end apart than those with a nacelle and such.
As for the hole to the down tube....hmmmm....I'm not sure but you definatly want to plug it! Maybe spray foam????
I would put the zerk on the left side where you can get at it when the front end is all the way to the right.
That's how it is on my RK and it makes sense. That way when you park and the front end is over to the left you don't see it and no one will mess with it.
And put the zerk half way from the top to the bottom. On my RK it's closer to the bottom so by the time you have grease squeezing up through the top bearings you got a ton already coming out of the bottom. It get's freekin' messy.

Bikes with the Dyna frame do not have a zerk fitting on the neck cause the frame tube is open to the neck. You have to seal the opening first.

So does anyone know a good place to get one...and what size (thread count, etc). I'd like to put a 90 in my Ultra.

Any autoparts store. They are 1/4"-28.
You'll probably have to buy a kit with 45,90 and straights for about $5.
I wasn't able to get a 90 in mine so used a 45.

My local Ace hardware store had them. I changed out my straight zerk for a 90 degree one, like your talking about. I bought several because depending on where they start the threads on them determines where it ends up pointing. I went through 5 or so until I found one the pointed it where I wanted it to.
