Lowering a 2001 FXDXT

My fiancee just bought her 3rd bike. A 2001 FXDXT for those longer trips. She already has a Buell Lightning for racing, and a pretty tricked out 1200 Sporty that is very fast. Her latest acquisition has 113 HP. Anyway, I have been replacing all the black engine parts with chrome, had the sheet metal custom painted, new rubber, lots of additional chrome, and now I need to lower it. It sits pretty high with the stock shocks. They are 13.5" hole to hole, and she can't touch the ground at all. A couple of questions have come up:

1. Is it possible to use shorter dyna shocks if I use shock mounting hardware from a different dyna model? The touring shock mounts are unique.

2. Can I drop the front end by moving the fork tubes up into the triple trees?

Very few of these bikes are around, and Harley doesnt make anything for this suspension. I really dont want to have to put out $600 for a set of lowered Progressive shocks for this bike if I can use other dyna shocks. I did a search here and found a few comments, but I thought I would see if anyone did anything recently.

Check out my signature. I lowered the rear 1 1/2". I might drop the front 1" by moving the tubes up. I talked to a Harley Mech. He said it can be done just make sure the tubes are measured perfect on each side.

Did you lower the rear by using different shocks? I see that the ones in the pic look like the stock-type shocks. Good looking bike, I might add!

Thanks,

With the Progressive shocks all the stock hardware can be used. It is a prefect fit and the ride is better then the stock shocks.

I have 11" 412 series on my 05 FXDX had to buy the stock bolts for a Dyna for them to fit the man behind the counter told me any dyna shocks will fit it now because of the stock bolts
