You set your wheel down on the rotor side and bent it. If you have the stock late model HD rotor, you can straighten it by using a dial indicator to find high/low spots, then use a nice size screwdriver in the crossdrilled holes. I did one and got it within 3thou. Original runout when bent was about 12 thou.

Deuce has you fixed up if you follow his advice. On the picture part you need to get with DP and send $15 for a full year of full access to all features of the forum. That is money very well spent. I'm waiting to get my "orange" turned back on. Good luck with the brake disc and let us know how it works out.

Good Dr.,

My brakes sound like a chain going through gears. I have changed the pads, and tried everything but swaping the rotor. The brakes work fine. Will this fix my problem???? If so I am headed to harbor freight to pick up a dial indicator. Could you give more specifices on how to mount the Dial Indicator and how to tweak the rotor with the screwdriver.

THANKS!!!!!

thanks

thanks for the info, but i really think its in the floating side pad, i guess it more of a rattle than a chatter, i can tap on my wheel with bike parked and it rattles, the spring clip does not seam to hold the pad tight it works fine but the rattle drives me nuts

Went and got a dial caliper and stand. the caliper is off no more than .005. I mesured it at the outer edge anf around the midpoint. I did notice a bit higer level of wear about 1/4 inch in from the outside. There wasnt a groove just a bit more polished. The wheel turns easily, but it not freewheeling. Any suggestions???

FBOY, check the runout when turning the wheel 1 revolution. Set the indicator to 0, and add the + and - readings to get total runout. If excessive, use a screwdriver or such to bend the rotor back into tolerance by palcing it in the crossdrilled holes that correspond with the high and low spots.

Checked the runout. It was less than .005. Do I need to adjust this???

I have the same problem. Brake chatter is driving me nuts. Started at around 2,000 miles. Now have 2,500. Have not had front wheel off. Took it to two dealers. Seems to be worse when cold. 2 dealers said nothing wrong.

brake chatter/ratttle

had this problem on my 99 dyna. get a small bottle of disc brake quiet ( pep boys has it). Apply in 4 spots around brake piston. Also get some brake lube, for the pin that the caliper slides on. fixed my problems.
