Private Messages?
I went to send a private message to ozzie about where I could get those quick disconnect hose clamps and I was informed that I dont have permission to send private messages.
So what exactly do you have to do to be able to send private messages?
Are the managers of this forum getting squirly again?
What gives? Are sending private messages and being able to delete your own messages now services that we have to subscribe for?
Thanks in advance.

Since implementing the membership option, maybe private messages are limited to members only?

Concur... Easy to do too
Check the User CP at the top left of the page. Go in there and find Paid Subscriptions and follow the instructions. Can do Paypal too.
Glad to see the administrators soliciting the support needed to keep this great resource going. Easy enough to afford too -- given what it's saved me at the dealer.

I'll reserve judgement on that until I see how many people bail.

i'm with chuck on that.....the advise and humor here is well worth the 15 bones. for those of you who are too cheap, come on and pony up the cash....you'll be happier and wiser in the long run. of course that may be debatable in some cases.

I guess what people don"t realize is that a good thing can only be free for so long. This site has been online for 3 1/2 years. With SEVERAL thousand visitors per day, the resources to use this FREE service cost money.
The only person that is on the hook every month is ME. When the bill comes, I pay it. It has to be paid if the site will continue to operate, or they shut us down. I have been doing this for several years and had actually thought about shutting the site down due to lack of revenue coming in on a regular basis.
Then comes the numerous requests to re-open the Picture Gallery and the Chat Rooms. Both of which require resources to run. The Picture Gallery will now require even more resources as members realize that it is back up and running. Then comes the mandatory server updates, paying for technical support to fix server issues that I cannot or do not know how to do, paying for software updates, paying for domain name renewals, and the list goes on.
I have debated this issue for a couple of years about locking the system down to paid members only, but refrained from doing so after receiving feedback from hundreds of loyal members. It has been suggested and supported by members for the past year to start charging some sort of membership fee to keep this forum a "sure thing".
My solution was to keep the system free for everyone to use and require some monetary commitment for those members that wish to use some of the other features.
For most of the members that just come here to surf to get information and occassionally post, this new subscription option does not affect them at all. You can still post, b*tch, moan, whine, search threads, post pictures, read reviews, surf pictures, chat, etc. etc. Bottom line, it is still free. And you DON'T have to subscribe and most members will probably choose not to.
The only features that have been removed from the "free" membership, are the "ammenities and condiments". Both of which are not required to "eat" here.
Either way, so long as I have a solid base of committed members, this site will not go anywhere, anytime soon. If you don't feel that this site is worth $1.25 a month, then that is your decision. You are not being forced to join.
So if thats being squirley, then I guess I am guilty.

Well...
Lets pretend that the fellow who everyone wanted banned was a paid subscription holder. Would he still have been banned?

Dragforce,
As with any establishment, just because you pay to be there does not give you the right to act out or violate rules. If you go to a Six Flags Theme Park and cut in line or act out, or clearly violate some posted rules, they will throw you out and will NOT give you a refund. They will, however, call the police.
Here at the VTF, I will not call the police.
Bottom line, it really takes alot to get you banned here. The rules are simple. Most choose to violate the rules just to see how far thehy can get away with. Maybe with a sense of ownership by being a paid member, we are less likely to see blatant acts of forum rules violation.
I hope this helps.
