Off Topic Rant
Since today is Veteran's Day and I am a Veteran, I'm going to jump on my soapbox and rant for a minute or two. First off, I'd like everyone to notice that the topic for this discussion and others like it fall under the "Off Topic" category. I didn't start this post under the "Touring, Exhaust, Seats or Tech talk" categories. The reason for my ire? I posted a question in the Exhaust folder, and for the first couple of posts things went well. Then, the next thing I know, there comes a whole barrage on clones, who built the first V-8 engine, who put them in what car, etc....you get the picture. Who cares!? It had nothing to do with my question, and nothing to do with the overall topic (besides the fact that a V-8 does need an exhaust). I looked through several different posts and found pretty much the same formula. Someone posts a valid question or comment in a particular area and somewhere by post 6 or 7 (assuming it makes it that far) we're talking about Aunt Emma's Oatmeal Raisin cookie recipe. Maybe we should implement what we in the Navy called a "Training Time Out". As soon as we get to a point where someone wants to discuss something other than the posted topic, we call for a TTO and head over here to the "Off Topic" folder.
I'll step down now and take my meds.
Rick
PS: This was in no way meant to offend anyone who has an Aunt Emma with an Oatmeal Raisin cookie recipe.

The specialty Forums are there for that purpose and things there should remain on topic. I agree with you 100%.
The way this Forum is built is designed to be a bit of something for everyone while at the same time not forcing folks to go through a bunch of crap they are not interested in. Folks that are not interested in politics should not be subjected to discussions on it outside of it's particular forum. Same with something like an exhaust forum. That is what ya talk about there. Seats and Saddles is a forum and folks looking for information on them should not have to filter through a discussion on oil.
It is a matter of simple respect for folks to follow that line.
Thanks for the post. I consider it a valid and valuable thought.

Yeah, I agree. This is the problem of the "wandering thread" or "Thread theft". I've run into that a lot. I guess it's human nature.

Has anybody noticed when the weatherman calls for 50% chance of rain, there's very few bikes on the road? And why is today, he said 80%, and there's was nothing but a brief drizzle?
I'm sorry, what was the topic?

Yea, it's been mixed snow & raining here for a week straight, I wish it would stop. I really need to fix that exhaust leak on the old chevy before the snow starts coming hard.

It's the nature of the beast. I think most folks, including me, try to stay on-topic, but as in human conversation, the subject sometimes morphs into something entirely different. No one is trying to diss the thread starter, it just is what it is. It seems the more interesting the topic to the most members, the less thread drift occurs.
Now, back to the weather.....very cool, windy and overcast here. Oh, yeah....I have SEIIs, a windshield and use Amsoil (from George Douglas). I voted for Bush.
