Exclamation Lyndall Z Pad Issue

Just installed the new Z Plus Lyndall pads on front and rear at 4300 miles on my 05 KP. All went seemingly well, and a good thing I did on the rears, I had about 2miles left on the OE pads. The fronts were fine, but I replaced all of them as recommended.

However, my 45 mile test run has the fronts making medium to high pitch whine. It increases with speed and changes pitch with brake application. Its pretty loud actually. The wheel spins freely so the pads aren't griping at rest. The rotor is nice and smooth, and is not abnormally hot after riding. On the lift, spinning the wheel as fast as one can by hand, I hear what sounds faintly like the old "card in the spokes" trick from those early days of bicycle riding. I'm thinking it's the disc vent holes as they pass the pads.

The rears don't seem to be making any sound at all.

It says the Z plus pads do not need any brake in period. It just doesn't seem right. Is there something I should know about this?

Any advice is appreciated...

Sometimes you can stop the noise by putting a 45 degree angle on the leading edge of the pads. Thats where the rotor first rolls thru the pad. I agree with the customer service from Lyndall, it is top notch.

Your supposed to BEVEL all edges of any Motorcycle Brake pad before installation --- When BEVELING use a File -- It only takes a few Minutes to do this

My new Lyndall pads went about 3000Ks before the bike started sounding like a train stopping. I get this hideous loud metal on metal stopping sound....

Front, rear it does not matter the noise is only when brakes are applied on a slow down-stop. Performance is still outstanding and nothing is sticking, for example wheels spin free and smooth/quiet.

I have not yet gone back to Lyndall yet. Gotta find the original brake packet to see which ones I put on as I understand they have different models. I asked for Lyndall Z pads, I think. Geez hope I got the right ones.

They do seem a bit hard on the rotors. I never had mine resurfaced only polished with a scotchbrite pad. (Is that a No No?)-

Ride on
