Disabled American Veteran first ever Motorcycle Chapter

I had this under general chat and thought it was better served here;

Hey to all, I would like to announce we, some members from other DAV Chapters and healthy enough to ride have decided to start a DAV Motorcycle Chapter. Our supporting dealership is Old Glory Harley in Laurel Md. our meetings are planned for the the last Saturday of the month at 0900 . We need former military, active, reserve or guard, any service with DD214 to prove honorable service, (Harley not required...

Those who join early will be charter members of this chapter. And yes you must be a member or become a member of DAV (transfers welcome). I am a Life time member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and live in the Potomac Maryland area, we already have members from DC, Northern Virginia and the Baltimore area. This is very exciting to us as this will be a first for DAV, Come join a great organization, ride with a great bunch of guys and gals and help support other disabled veterans through your membership.

Our mission is to join together, ride when possible and last but not least help each other with our VA claims or those claims of others........thanks for reading and hopefully we'll see you in Laurel!!!! CSM-H

CSM-H,
I think that it is great that you are getting to together and I wish you the best of luck.
I know that you are a lifetime member and I am happy for you and I hope that the DAV will help you in your time of need.
I do have to throw out a word of caution, be careful of anything associated with the DAV. I can go into a long time consuming story on how they are out for themselves and stick it to the people who have given them years of loyal service, but I will not.
JUST BEWARE OF THE DAV!!

I think your idea is a darn good one. Its about time vets that ride started to band together. As far as beware of the DAV that the other gentleman wrote I wouldn't worry about it to much as long as your group looks out for themselves and takes care of business ( vets) then more power to you.
Good Luck

Good luck with your endeavors Sergeant Major. What I have found to be the main drawback to riding associations is that over time they have a tendency to turn political and have too many in-house power struggles and in-fighting. I recommend that you be careful and write your by-laws, if you create some, to reflect that your mission is camaraderie and helping each other navigate the waters of the VA disability system.

All the best

Good idea.
Life member DAV
Milton P Hunter #17 Mississippi

I ride alone.

Once walked into a DAV chapter bar in Gulfport/Biloxi and got treated like something they would scrape off their shoes until I showed my card to the bartender.

Nice people once you got to know them and vice versa.

Can I join if I live in Ohio, as we have none yet in this area. I'm a 100% DAV and mainly ride alone as there are mainly Hog chapters that ride around in packs here and from what I've seen scare the you know what outta me!!! I'm not the best rider around for sure but I've seen some stupid stuff that keep me away. Anyway, good luck and hope the Chapter gets off to an awsome start!
