kickstand spring replacement

Thought I would pass this tip along to anyone needing to change their kickstand spring. Bend in with a pair of boxed end wrenches to spread the turns, then stick pennys in it hold it stretched out. After you install it, set the bike on it once and the pennys fall out.

I was told this tip awhile ago. Tried it out on my Wide Glide, worked like a charm. No problem.

Here is another one for you. With your buddy holding it or on a lift loosen the 11/16 nut on the kick stand until it is holding with about 1/2 of the treads. Then lift the catch up and swing the kick stand forward, hook the spring and pull it back, drop the catch, tighten the nut. DONE. takes about 2 min. Just don't let go or it will slap your fender.

Thanks,
Lyn

Good info. I installed a chrome spring the hard way by stretching. After a 6 pack and alot of cusing it will go on..

Only bicycles have kick stands!

Take the nut off of the top of the jiffy stand.
Remove the jiffy stand from it's mount.
Put the spring on and use the leverage of the jiffy stand to stretch the spring and put the jiffy stand back into place.
Replace the nut on the top of the jiffy stand.

Ride Safe,
Vettster

HEY!! Where were all these good ideas a year ago when I was STRUGGLING to stretch the spring from the kickstand to the little peg on the frame. Next time it will certainly be a lot eaiser. (Of course, that assumes that my aging brain will remember what I read today.)

Later,
RonO

I registered just so I could tell you THANK YOU! After struggling with the spring for like an hour in a hot north Texas garage, bent it, stuck in about a roll of pennies & it went on easy as pie. Made a beautiful sound as the spring stretched out & the pennies hit the floor.
