Where are they now?

After the Katrina floods and other parts of the disaster we watched thousands of cars, trucks, RVs and motorcycles get inundated. It would seem there should have been thousands of motorcycles lost during this mess. So I've been watching to see where these bikes have gone. So far nada. I have not seen a single ad for bikes that were totaled in that area. I was hoping to see at least a few insurance auction for some salvaged bikes.

So the question is: Where are they now?

I believe they are planning on destroying them due to their being covered with an infectious goo which is mutating into god knows what...

or... they might be preparing them for shipment to North Korea... kind of a peace offering.

GrayRider will become famous soon enough
They've recycled them into sump pumps.

Wouldn't that also apply to the toothless brain-dead townies that mugged for every camera they could find?

I'm just saying, we might want to be careful and bury everything, you know, just saying...

Well I know what happened to one of them. My prior '02 RG was sold to a guy who lived in Gulfport Mississippi one week before Katrina hit. He lost the bike in the flood and never made a payment on it because the insurance co totaled it and paid off his loan in full (he financed 100%). He then proceeded to take my invoices for all the upgrades I did to the bike and for some reason his insurance company paid him for those too. He then bought the bike back from the insurance company with their money and ended up owning the bike free and clear with $4k in his pocket. He told me it cost him $1k to fix it and he is riding it today, as far as I know.

Bottom line is those bikes are probably on the road. Oh and one last thing and this is important. He told me that in his state (mississippi) they do not tattoo the title as being totaled or reconditioned or anything like that. So that bike is out there with a clean title. He seemed like a straight up guy and would disclose to a purchaser if he sold it. BUT that means that will be other bikes that were also once underwater and repaired and it will not be shown on the title. So I would not buy a used bike for a while, at least not one that came from those states effected in the storm. Just my 2 cents.

Many more of the bikes and cars are being sold all over the east coast, be very wary of a good deal....

The salvage yards are starting to list them forsale here in Ohio along with the cars from down there. All are being sold as deep water damage.
