New Vibration felt through the front pegs??? help!

Getting some vibration I can feel coming through my pegs at 75 - 90 mph. Just started in the last 200-300 or so miles. Never noticed it before on my '04 DWG. Matter of fact it usually rides like a cloud having Progressive shocks and fork springs on it. Bike has about 7,300 miles on it. Where is the first place to start looking??? Motor mounts maybe?? Engine runs fine.... haven't found a problem there. New tires and balancing about 1500 miles ago. Compensator nut coming loose? Changing it out in a few days anyway, I'll know then if that's the culprit. Any ideas????

Did you check the front mount and whether it is in an unstressed state when the engine isnt running?

Wheel weights? Tire going bad (carcass bulge)? Vibration because of a motor mount problem should be rpm dependent rather than speed dependent as you have indicated.

Does the vibration abate if you pull in the clutch lever (allowing the engine to momentarily drop in rpm). If the vibration continues, you might look at speed related items (tires/wheels).

Does the bike have cast or spoke wheels? If spokes, are they all tight?

Have you checked the run out on the wheels (both radial and lateral)? What about the lateral run out on the brake disks? Sometimes folks use the disks for leverage when changing tires and they bend the brake disk.

Considering it's speed related, sounds like a wheel balancing problem, I'm guessing the wheel weight that was put on 1500 miles ago fell off.

Yes it vibrates at a stop light but the Dynas are rubber mounted and the engine smoothes out once the rpms get going. The bike was smooth as glass. If my bike had the engine mounted directly to the frame as in a Softail it wouldn't concern me but at 85 mph it's not a comfortable feeling wondering if somethings about to break.

I will check all the motor mounts and may even go through the realignment procedure with the mounts. If that's not the issue, I'll take it in to check the balancing on the tires. If all else fails I'll shim it like 84FXRP did.

Thanks for the leads.

i also had excessive vibs through the pegs, i called s&s they said to check the top motor mount and to make sure nothing was touching the frame, pipes ect, the top mount was a bit loose and cured some of it, but not all, i am installing one of the balance master units to see if that helps, the guy at s&s said he didn't know if it would but it would increase the life of the motor so it was a no brainer for me.we will see if it works.
