How long have you had your bike?
How long have you had your bike? I used to be of the mindset keep it new. But these bikes aren't cheap, but resale balances that a bit. Mainly thinking about all the extras I got. Stock is pretty plain. Costs to rebuild and costs to reoutfit. So just wondering how long you have kept/keep you bike.
Also I am talking about youtr main ride.
I've had mine a year. Thinking about keeping and rebuilding it.(not for awhile)

Bought my Night Train in July of 2003. The original owner had purchased it in November of 2002.

well thats pretty much what I used to do, get rid of them with low miles. I got 10K now. I put 1000 on this years. I'll proably get up to 18k this year. I can't imagine getting rid of this bike in the next couple years. Was thinking about keeping it for awhile. But the question is when do repairs/rebuilds/maint. cost more then replacing extras.

Got mine November 1 of last year. I can't imagine getting rid of it for a long time to come. But then I have a better track record with machines than I do with, say, wives!

I only had my 02 Fat Boy 2 years, got most of my money minus some of the upgrades back when i sold it myself. My new RK will probably be with me 4-5 years or whenever something I just "have to have" comes along. I enjoy the process of doing the mods and if you do it right, you don't lose that much. With used prices settling down due to harley's higher production output, used prices are dropping some so I'll likely keeep them longer than before.

I have had this one for 3 years now. New paint ( my own creation so cost was next to nil) few parts new tire (obviously), brakes ect. I think if you keep the add ons to a minimum and keep the bike for at least 4 or 5 years you should get your money back or close to it. That would depend on how much new bikes increase in price. Not looking to sell mine. If I do my wife would see that as an opertunity to purchase something else. So hold on to your rides guys, you never know what a women is thinking and if you don't want to sleep in the shed, don't buy another..... ha ha ha :p

Bought my 2000 Black FXDX and had it for almost 4 years with 39K.
Sold that and just bought a new 04 Road Glide in early February.
Who knows how long I will keep the RG? It sure is a mile eater!

4 1/2 years.
I hate to change things on bikes when they're new (except tax stuff), feel like I should ride it as-is for a while. By now I can justify paint, or major motor work (in-between times I always say I'm done, and satisfied - go figure).
So for right now I'm satisfied - but I know on the horizon looms a 95" upgrade, cams etc. Probably should do something fast before this old Evo is obsolete

I've had my present ride for only 9 months, but the one (Shovelhead) before this I had for 20 years! I think this one will be around for a long time to come.

99 fatboy purchased new in november 98. upgrades and custom paint have been continuouis and will continue to be until the day i die or get rid of it, whichever comes first. i dont believe in a motorcycle as an investment in anything except my own enjoyment. whether it be looking at it, riding it or working on it. i dont count the beans going in and wont compare to the beans i get when i'm done. kept the last one 12 years and i could see this one going the same unless i just get the fancy for something else.
if you spend too much time thinking about what youre gonna get out of it, it isnt enjoyment anymore. its an excercise in misery.
if you want to keep it new just take care of it. a harley is timeless.
