Which Spark Plugs?

I noticed there are four different grades of Harley sparkplugs. Regular, gold, platinim and double platinum. Are there any appreciable differences between them?

The price! Seriously, save your money and buy the copper electrode (regular) type. the Platinum plugs would be good on an engine where they would be hard to reach OR you're really lazy. lol. They don't have to be changed for 100k. The screamin chicken plugs are 'Splitfire' (forked electrode ) type and have not proven to be any better than the el cheapos.

Lots of plugs out there. You can spend big money-but dont. NGK makes a great plug They have high quality threads and dont forget a light coating of antiseize when you change them. You pay enough for the bike dont pay 15.00 for plugs. But if you must I sell them to ya

I took my HD plug to Auto Zone and they crossed it over to a Champion for $1.50 each.

I'm a Autolite believer/user. What is the cross reference number? Thanks.

Does anyone know who makes the HD plug? It is pretty easy to see that the Screamin' Eagle plug is a Split Fire.

Here is a pretty good site about sparkplugs. It has a huge cross-reference chart that contains brands I've never even heard of. To view the chart you need Excel and broadband (or patience) for the 2MB file.

Autolite plugs:

4164 - standard HD replacement for TC's
4163 - one range cooler
4162 - two ranges cooler

I been running them in the TC since new. I use the 4162 in the heat of the summer and then switch to 4163 in the fall until next summer.

At one time, HD plugs used to be made by Champion but not sure right now.

csoday is reading this now saying WTF is this?
Put in the platinums and forget about them. Then you can worry about serious things like, SYN3 or Dino, should I wave or not.

I have always been a big believer in the Bosch platinum plus plugs. Ran them in my trucks and car ,,,before I got my present truck,, cant find plugs or wires anywhere for it....Dont know what ta do....
But I will probably run the Bosch in my bike too.
