Thumbs up Wild idea Sunday night

Well, I'm not at all a compulsive person, but I did, what was for me, quite an impromptu, wild thing Sunday night. Hadn't ridden for several days due to rain, so took my Heritage out at around 6:30 pm for a short 7 mile ride to a Starbucks off I-5 between Tacoma and Olympia. Kids were either at their dad's or at winter retreat, and husband in Las Vegas on business. The 20 min ride to Starbucks just didn't scratch that itch! Talking to myself: "I haven't had a ride further than 45 miles to and from work since I got the bike in Nov., don't really know how the seat would feel on a longer ride,.... nobody's waiting for me at home..... I could ride to Portland, OR and be back by around 11:00pm !!!! Away I went, heated gloves and jacket liner, Joe Rocket black pants, hiking boots with thin "church" socks (was only going out for a 20 min ride originally). In short, it was a really good test ride. Found my Heritage seat to be totally comfortable, no problems riding a straight 1 hour and 45 min without stopping. Throttle rocker helped an acheing right arm on the way back. If I ever take a long ride over an hour and a half during the winter like that again (around 37 degrees out), I really need the heated pants, and DON't just wear thin socks! My feet were freezing when I arrived home. It was all night riding, traffic pretty clear. Called hubby at the McDonald's in Portland, and said "Guess where I am?" He was quite surprised, but not ticked or overly worried about me.

Not being a spontaneous person, it was fun to do something like that! Feel really fortunate to be able to go on a 4 hour ride without rain in the Pacific Northwest in the middle of February!undefined

You Go Girl!

Just wait until it warms up, then you can ride across the country on a whim!

Way to go!

By the way - you can never just go for a "short ride".

What do you mean, "If ever?" Saddle up an do it again! 37 is refreshing

I left the house for lunch about a year ago while the wife and kid were visiting family after a funeral. I came back 3 days later and $300 poorer. I had no destination, no plan, and only a 3 day window. I never made it more than 500 miles from home, but it still rates as one of my favorite all time rides.

Marthared, that was way cool. I to take those short trips and find myself 50 to 100 miles away from the home base. But it sure feels good. You go Girl.
