Insurance claim question
A guy at work had his 3 month old Ultra submerged in sea water for a few days thanks to hurricane Sandy. I mean completely submerged. The water was over the windshield.
I think his insurance company should total it.
What do you think?

if it was my bike, that's what i'd want my insurance company to do. i'd imagine that bike will be nothing but problems if they attempt to repair it.

I would want it totaled also, but it's up to the adviser/policy.
The downside is he will loose money on it.

If they don't total it, the bike will need a complete off frame restoration.

I would be shocked if they didn't total it.

Totaled. I have a buddy who is riding one that was totaled in Katrina. He bought it and rebuilt it. It had many electrical issues and quite a bit of rust inside the combustion chambers.

A friend's Lincoln MKIII rolled down the boat ramp into salt water ... submerged.
The tow truck winched it out, onto a flat deck, up to the boat ramp on the lake, off the truck and submerged into fresh water. It was submerged for an hour until the EPA showed up. He took it to his shop, and over the winter, dried it out, upholstery from another wrecked car .... etc.
He drove it for a number of years, but it always had electrical issues.

GEICO guy was there today. My friend said the guy actually seemed sad to see a bike lost like that. Totaled it, along with the pickup and the car...
