Riding my stock 103, it goes into single-cylinder mode frequently in the South Florida heat. I have heard a lot of concern, but never a word about damage from overheat... Are there any such stories?

I have had the Fairing mounted HD oil temp gauge in my last three Ultras. I would recommend you get one. On a warm summer day I will run around 230 with my 2009. Stuck in traffic in 100 degree temps I have flirted with 260/280.
Have the heat management activated so you bike will run on one cylinder when idling in traffic.
The oil temp will cool down fast when you turn off the bike as much as 30 degrees in less than 20 minutes...
With my 2003 Ultra I ran a oil cooler and a parade fan for cooling (in HD catalog). I had the parade fan so it would come on with the thermostat and had it wired to my acc switch so I could turn it on whenever I wanted. I lived in a much warmer climate then. Don't really need it where I live now.
