Dyna VS Touring???
I'm at a cross roads... I have an '07 StreetBob that I really like. I also have an opportunity to get an 02 Road Glide for a really good price. I like the Bob for most of my riding, but I've been eyeing touring bikes for 2 up & longer commutes. My toss up is trading from an 07 to an 02, the 96" vs the 88". with my trade ( I still owe on the bob) I can get the Glide for the same payment, just a little longer.
I guess I could wait a year or two & have both.....I'm Confused!
Anyone had both?...opinions.... I guess this is just my Saturday night drinking thread.....

I have an FXD and an Ultra. I'd be hard pressed to lose either one but if I had to, I'd sell the FXD first.
On the other hand if I had bought the FXD first, I probably never would have bought the Ultra. I wouldn't have known what I was missing.
Once you ride a bagger on a couple of overnighters you can never be without. They just do it all. BTW the sidecar has been detached for a couple of years now.
My advice, pay off what you have and then buy a used bagger. But for now, crack open another longneck.

I have discovered something better than onwning a Harley. Owning two. I kept my softail and recently purchased a used Ultra. I love them both. I would find it hard to part with either one.
My vote would be to wait and make room for another horse in the stall.

I had an '06 Low Rider with a 95" kit, 2 into 1 yadda yadda. Awesome bike, loved scraping that thing through the corners. Bought a Street glide, and I can confidently say, I'll have this bike awhile. My advice to you: get the RG, then, if you want, start saving to get a dyna. Look at it this way, you've already had the Dyna, might as well try the Glide out for awhile.

No comparo--touring all the way. But I'd scrub the RoadGlide in favor of a RoadKing--it looks better & you wont have to deal with that fixed fairing

I've never been sorry I bought my bagger. Some say they are combersome to ride in town, I've never felt that. I always have room for an extra sweatshirt and goggles. FYI, I have a 95 inch kit installed, but I ride a 6000 plus feet above sea level.

No contest, wait and get another bike.
Having owned lots of bikes (different brands), and a fair few Harleys, and being in the position of being the proud owner of an
'09 FXD, I would wait and buy the bagger a little later.
This is the same quandry I faced recently, but I bought the FX, and MAN, am I glad I did! Riding it is a hoot, and since I'm a performance oriented hot rodder anyway, I truly feel I made the right choice.
I'll wait, and buy the Road Glide of my dreams, a bit later down the road, after I've learned what I feel is a comfortable amont of knowledge, about my 96" TC motor, and then when I snag the big 'Glide, I can outfit it right the first time, and have a turnkey, solid, bulletproof touring bike, and still have my hot rod too!
See, my motto is, "Cake is REALLY nice to make, look at, and own, but it is also quite delicious"

among my greatest regrets was letting Dyna go.
2 bikes is always better, 3 even.

I keep my 05 Honda ST1300 around for when I want to go fast and make quick work out of a days ride. But that said, I will take my bagger anytime over the ST for road trips. Way more comfortable! My friend has an 02 Wide Glide. He is always complaining about the wind and such. I tell him he needs a bagger. He said they are too cumbersome for him around town. I said that's why they make both. Pay off the Dyna and then buy a bagger of your choice. But,,,,once you go bagger, you won't go back! You know you have arrived when you ride a bagger.

In SEP 08 I traded my 06 Ultra SE to the dealer on a new 09 Ultra SE. Gave up the 06 to the dealer expecting to get my new one in DEC. Didn't get it til July. Had another bike to ride but bought an 09 Dyna FXD in Feb just to have a Harley to ride while waiting and figured my son could ride it when he was home and I'd continue to ride the dyna to work after I got the Ultra. Wrong! I rode the Dyna around 7000 miles between Feb and July and convinced myself I will never own another bike without bags and a full size shield. I've owned baggers for well over 20 years and quickly remembered why. There isn't a place to put shet on a dyna without straps, wadding and general pain in the azz. The windshield sucks wind, literally. The headlight puts out about as much light as a candle and the bike vibrates your hands to sleep at 75 mph.
Yep, call me a wuss, spoiled or whatever you like but I'm over 50 and do not care for the handlebar buzz, wind trying to whip the glasses off my face, or spending 20 minutes trying to tie crap down that I could stick in the saddlebag and be on my way in 2. I ride a lot of 500+ mile days to the tune of about 18,000 miles a year and this is in the North country where it snows off and on 5-6 months a year. I rode a couple of 400 mile days on that Dyna and I have to say it wasn't nearly as pleasant as the baggers. It handles lighter and accelerates well, but that tiny front tire allows the crosswinds we often get up here to blow me all over the road. The Road Glide, Tour Glide nor the Road Kings I previously owned were not nearly as effected by the wind. And the wind is hardly an issue for my current Ultra either.
A lot of folks own Dynas and I've seen some of them lay down a lot of miles. When I was in my twenties or when not riding two up that was fine. But now days I want an 800 pound bike with a thick fat seat under my butt and I love listening to the stereo while burning out 500+ mile days and I don't do that on straight interstates either before someone brings that up. So it's to each his own. What do you consider a comfortable ride? Buy that one and enjoy it.

There is no comparison!!! Go with the touring all the way,but I wouldn't go backwards.I would go with a 09 or 10 touring model. The better frame, bigger rear tire,& 96 ci motor would be my reasons.

I'd hate to get something 5 years older, but it would still be way more comfortable on trips.

Dyna and bagger are two different beasts. It's like caddilac vs. sport car. The way I solved it was to buy me a 98 wide glide to go along with my road king....love them both and they are two totally different rides....
