And you thought your day sucked!
Going to Myrtle beach tomorrow, so last night I decided to give the bike the 20,000 mile service. Bought all the lubes, gaskets, etc. Late last night I decided to adjust the clutch. Clutch was working fine, but what the hell, adjust it anyway. As I'm tightening up the adjuster on the cable......snap! The threaded barrel broke. Nice! I am the first one at the Stealer this morning and lo and behold, they actually have one! Sweet! I'll be done in no time! WRONG!!!
This is my first clutch cable replacement, but I got the manual. Seems like a no-brainer. Remove the rear pipe, take the transmission cover off, and remove the broken cable. Looks easy enough to put it all back together. Get it all buttoned up, adjusting the cable, and something doesn't feel right. I mess around a bit, re-adjust the clutch pack, adjust the cable, and NO travel. NONE! I take the tranny cover off AGAIN, all seems good. Put it back on, and same thing. No clutch lever movement. Must be the ramp and balls, right? Apart once again, VERRRRRRRRY carefully re assemble, and BINGO! It's all good. I don't know what I did wrong, but I guess I fixed it. Clutch action is good, lever feels great.
So, while I'm patting myself on the back for fixing the problem I solved, I decide to replace my tiny custom mirrors with the stock HD mirrors that came on the bike for better vision behind me. While removing the left mirror, it jumped out of my hand and fell on the tank. $HIT!!!!! Small but noticeable chip in the paint. right next to the fuel gauge.
At this point I'm wondering if I should push my luck and even take her out tomorrow. I know I will, but what the hell? Can I be this cursed?
Pass the Budweiser please..............

ya gots nothing to whine about here.
was the booboo on the tank the first ding on the bike?
that is the one that sucks, all the rest are just additions to the character.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAAH!!!!!!
I seriously thought I was the only one.
I have a bad case of slippery fingers. I'd get fired in a day if I worked in a custom shop.

I wish! The first TWO came from installing the sissy bar and pad. After posting this thread I went for a ride. She runs like brand new. I am happy I'm not the only one this crap happens to. Myrtle Beach, here I come!
The Crown and Coke will have to wait till I get to Myrtle. My favorite drink by the way.

Same thing happened to my brother. Except it was the tranny drain plug that came out due to forgetting to tighten it the night before.
Here's a lesson to everybody:
Never work on your bike the night before a trip. You're better off to deal with it on the road.

I have often wondered myself, why not just start the task with a sledge hammer and get all of the bangs knicks and scrapes out of the way immediately!!

Sounds like a real good reason to enjoy your vacation, luvstoride.
