My Winter Project Water Buffalo

Check out my winter project. Plan on cleaning it up a little, rebuilding the front brakes, coating the gas tank. Picked it up for $400. 1976.

You sure as hell don't see a Water Buffalo every day. Matter of fact I don't think I have seen more than 4 or 5 ever. Very cool.

Cool bike!!! Back in the late 70's my older brother had a fully decked out one. These are the only 2 pictures I have of it. They were taken in the summer of 78.

That brings back memories............

Saw a restoration report on a German board, guy spent a ton of money on it to get it to a good runner. Hope you don't find bad surprises in the carb, crank and cylinder bank area. parts are hard to come by.

I'm considering restoring it, but I don't want a money pit, already have one of those. From what I can tell I would need a new seat, front rotors and fender, crash bar, chain guard, re-paint, polish the engine. Not sure if I want to do all that. I'll ride some next year and see if it grows on me.

Hey Pikeslayer;
couldn't scope the pix (not a premium member yet) but am familiar with the water buffalo. Bought one in the early '80s and rode the crap out of it. Great bikes, not too much ever went wrong on them.
A great source for parts and info for these (and a myriad of other old obscure bikes) is a magazine from the U.K. called Classic Bike Guide.
They list all kinds of owners clubs for different marques and models, and when they feature a model, they usually go VERY in depth, interview the guys who are relatively expert, or at least very experienced with those models, and make every effort to show how to perform whatever work the bike needs, with readily available tools, and NOT the factory tools, so us "common folk" can do it ourselves.
This mag has been a wealth of knowledge and resource to me for quite awhile now, and they usually have a pretty good stock of back issues.
Due to some owners clubs in the U.K. being sometimes almost fanatical in their dedication to some marques and models, it should not be unduly difficult to source parts. Good luck with the bike

Nice find Dude!! Looks like it's in good shape too. Some of those old two stroke multis were stupid fast. I started riding in 77 remember seeing several of those around. Cool stuff, have fun with that.

Cut your losses now! It will turn into a nightmare! I'll give you $450.00 for it right now.

I remember when they first came out. Brings back a lot of good memories.
