Dad crashed his scoot:(

The primary belt snapped and locked up the back tire. He says he was counter steering so far trying to get it to stand back up that he couldn't reach the clutch in time and down he went. Anyways, he's just fine, and despite having a peg dig in and flipping over after sliding, the bike is ok. Snapped off the mirrors, trashed the hand grips and pegs, and scratched up a shock. Dented the tank, and the accompanying paint damage. All in all not bad for a 30 year old bike. A little paint and chrome and it's back on the road. It needed painted anyway after a gas leak killed the paint that was on it, so really no harm no foul.

Not sure. He said he just put it on a little while ago. He's been having problems with them breaking. He wants to go to a chain primary and be done with it.

Hey man...good to hear the old shovel and dad can still take a beating. I've had a couple of those primary belts break on me (different bikes) but never locked up a tire - not sure what caused that. I think a big reason for early failures is due to the heat. A vented cover helps but it still gets pretty hot in there. I guess there's a reason HD still uses a primary chain. Anyway, had i kept the bike, i had planned to convert it back to a primary chain - just never got around to collecting the parts.

Hey good to hear form ya! Yeah, he's put a lot of miles on the bike. Rode it from central IL to FL the last week of December in 07, and still riding it to and from work almost every single day. It's prolly got a hundred K on it or more by now. This is just another upgrade opportunity. He gave it a little taller gearing and says he can cruise 80 all day with no complaints. He's still like a little kid with it.
