Oil Bud Experience

Has anyone had any personal experience with the Oil Bud oil cooler? I've seen their ad in American Iron and am thinking of buying one.

Thanks.

Cool July Baggers Mag

There is also a step by step install with photos in the July edition of Baggers Magazine. The August edition has the digital temp gauge install to go with it.

I assume you're happy with it? How much has it lowered your temps?

I got a Jagg Oil cooler on my bike, 2005 Deluxe, low mounted. It lowered the temps about 20 degrees measured from the oil dipstick thermometer. The low install makes it look like it came on the bike.

Davidtn, I don't know exactly how much my temps lowered. I can tell you that I ran my bike at idle for 45 minutes while I was tweeking the map on my Thundermax, and the engine temperature never went avove 238 degrees.

I mounted a 10 row cooler just above my regulator. Jagg doesn't have this configuration for an Ultra. So I made my own bracket, had to cut a notch in my lower fairing to allow the lines to connect the adapter and cooler together. I mounted the cooler on the bowtie between the down tubes.
I Googled oil bud oil coolers and found some good posts on the cvoharley forum. Most were negative due to the cooler being mounted so close to the road.

Could you post some photos of your Jagg mount? I just installed a 10 row Jagg on my 09 RG. Don't think it's getting any airflow using the below the regulator mount.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread. I looked at the Oil-Bud cooler and would have bought one if I hadn't already bought the Jagg. Looks like it has more cooling area than any of the others I've seen.

Thanks,

Mark

I watched video of the Oil Bud and they went in depth about how tough it is...they beat it with a sledge hammer and even shot it with a shotgun. It still held 150 psi of pressure. Seems like it's tough enough to me.

I'm leaning toward it based on my research so far. Another thing I like about it is it is virtually undetectable to the casual observer. That's the one thing I don't like about some of the other oil coolers I've seen is that they are usually easily noticed.

Oil Bud

I just installed an Oil Bud Cooler on my lowered '09 FXDC after several months of digging for the best product on the market. This is the creme de la creme of coolers available... I ride a lot of gravel roads and this is a virtually indestructible product. Install was easy. Results are more than satisfactory; excellent form, function, and design. I don't care what you run over, you won't have to worry about this unit leaking, clogging, or losing effectiveness. It is strong enough to jack the bike up on. If you don't know what you're looking at you won't know it's there. One bolt moves it out of the way to access your oil drain plug... positioning of O2 sensor on some aftermarket exhausts may require you to slightly move the engine back in the rubber mounts for the oil filter to clear the frame but it is a simple workaround... well worth any minor imposition. Bud Clarke deserves recognition for his thought, time, and dedication to Harley riders.

something that strong would lack ability to transfer heat and would be heavy, no?

Talking Oil Bud

the oil bud is strong and aluminum, very lightweight, superb design... manufacturer's test results... bike idled until oil temp reached 250... oil exiting the cooler was 156 with no air flow...

Jagg 10-row mounted on the downtube for me. Big difference in oil temperature (I haven't seen over 205* yet). I imagine it'll go a bit higher in the summer, but I don't have to worry about the motor cooking itself.

The oil bud is an interesting idea, but I'd rather not have it underneath the bike and have to move it every time I mess with something down there.

I would be afraid that something like a parking lot speed bump would rip it off. As much as I try to avoid it, I have scraped the lower frame rails crossing over those damn things.
