Missouri retains Lid Law.

Missouri Governor Nixon has vetoed SB202/27 which would amend the state helmet law for adult motorcyclists...

Missouri House and the Senate had approved SB202 and passed it on to Governor Nixon who then was entertained by the "Chicken Little Traveling Circus", better known as the NHTSA. The Missouri AAA, who still considers motorcycles to be nothing more than RV's, added their stories of gloom and doom, while the medical professionals wheeled in examples of pieced together motorcycle crash survivors who had failed to wear a helmet. (When they crashed they might have been drunk or stoned or inexperienced riders, but hey, let's no go there)

Anyway, Missouri retains the helmet law and I will retain any money I had planned to spend in Missouri this summer. I wanted to visit the Harry S Truman Museum and Library in Independence to get a close up picture of a man who had backbone and believed in freedom for all.

Like to the newspaper article on the helmet issue...

i thought this law did pass but there were all kinds of crazy stipulations to it ?

like the rider could go with out a helmet but if you had a passenger they had to wear one.

going to have to look into this further i haven't read any thing to confirm it just what a couple of people that live in MO told me.

Why anyone would wanna live in Missouri is beyond me--the place has NOTHIN' to offer. Well, then again--neither does Florida, except good weather & girls walkin' around half-naked most of the year! And NO lid OR insurance law. And great beaches. But that's it.

When did this country get to the stage where our government told us that we are unable to take care of our own safety and we are unable to understand and accept the risk of helmetless riding? When was it that Americans accepted their government being their mother and father? Well... it'll only get worse with socialized healthcare because the government foots the bill for your medical care... which means they get to tell you that you have to wear a helmet, full riding gear, and, hell if the technology was there, a force field around you. Please! Leave me alone. I'll wear a helmet if I want to... it is my life, not yours Uncle Sam.

It was back in 1983 and I attended a helmet law repeal public hearing at the state capitol in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. I believe it was before the Senate Transportation Committee.

After I read my prepared paper, a Committee member said:"We have to look out for you".

I replied:"With all due respect, where were you when I was shipped off to Korea and those men behind me in this room were shipped off to Vietnam?" "Why didn't you look out for us?"

I was escorted out of the room.

I have to deal with the stupid MO laws on a weekly basis. I live in IL but my GF lives in MO. Every time i cross the river i have to don the lid. Funny thing is most of the guys i see on bikes over there are wearing non-DOT helmets. About the only thing the govt is protecting is a few heads from sunburn.

Well said and thanks . Maybe we shouldn't be made to wear a helmet but it sure makes sense to .

I don't care about state helmet laws because I wear one all the time. I live in Nebraska where we have helmet laws and the states arguement is, especially head injuries, when the insurance runs out then they become wards of the state and often times can be expensive.

I was fined $25 by a State Trooper Memorial Day weekend (Saturday) for wearing a novelty helmet.
He stopped me just for that, he asked me if I knew why he was stopping me and I told him I was doing nothing wrong. He said it was the helmet and it was hard for me not to say, "now I know why I'm being stopped, it's because your a

That is very rare. helmets save lives that still end up as vegetables, too. It sjould be up to the individual, not the state. maybe they should be telling people what kind of toilet paper to buy, or how to put it up,(which way the roll goes), because someone says that one way is more sanitary than the other.
