Spark Plug Wires

Have a question for you....I special ordered and picked a new set of Screaming Eagle spark plug wires and specifically asked if they were like the old ones and could still be ordered in black before I special order and pay for them. Yes was the answer, so I bought them. So I get around to putting them on last night and notice that they are black...But with bold orange lettering saying Screaming Eagle on them. Anybody know how to remove the lettering without damaging the wires? Thanks.

A little Paint should do the job - There is also a liquid rubber that you can pick which will blend in without being to obvious; it can be picked up at most auto stores.

I was hoping some type of mild concoction or trade secret like the Mr Clean Magic Eraser or something would work? Anybody removed this type of imprinted lettering.

Yeah Mike, dark gray would have been fine but that big bold orange just does nothing for me or my Putt!

Acetone will do the job, just be sure it's dry before firing her up..

Thanks, thats what I was looking for. Acetone won't soften the wires? I actually thought about laquer thinner also? Wanted to check with those in the know first.

I'd try mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol before acetone. And, as my fellow Doof suggested, try it on the old ones first, if not to see if it removes lettering (Idon't think the stock ines have lettering) then to see if it melts rubber.

My hobby is model railroading and when I need to remove lettering on any of the trains, I use is a small amount of DOT 3 brake fluid on a pencil eraser. It hasn't caused me any problems and doesn't seem to affect the styrene plastic that the cars are made of. That being said, I would try it on the old wires first.

. . .Evidently nothing.

Sounds crazy I know, but I have removed lettering on a few other things with aerosol hair spray and a Q-tip..... Worth a shot before using anything that might soften the rubber.

If you have a wife or girlfriend, it is a freebie to try it.
