American Motorcyclist Association
The AMA protects your right to ride. We fight bike bans, land closures, health-care discrimination against motorcyclists, and more. Plus, the AMA is committed to providing the best benefits possible for its members to save them time and money. We are also dedicated to amateur racing, providing amateur competitors and their families, friends and fans with exciting and enjoyable racing events that create lifelong memories. We also publish American Motorcyclist magazine, which focuses on the accomplishments of our members in all forms of riding, whether it's racing, cross-country touring or trail riding. The AMA is dedicated to all these things, and more. After all, we love to ride.

Ama
The AMA is definately a good thing towards standing up for our rights in Washington D.C. and against the States. I also enjoy reading the magazine every month. Lots of good articles. Some will make you mad when you read how our rights get violated. My son started racing motocross when he was 10 and raced till he was 25, the last 4 years holding a AMA Pro Racing license. I've rode MX all my life, and did some AMA races after I got old enough to race the +40 class. I'm a 10 year member, my son is a 16 year member, and my wife is a 6 year associate member. (reduced price, non-racing, but let her get a mechanics armband to get into the Pro Pits and trackside when he was racing) Even though we aren't racing anymore, we'll remain members because of what they stand for and how they try to defend our rights. I spend my spare time on a Softail Custom... junior runs around on a Fat Bob now.

Lots of folks are thinking it, but I'm stupid enough to say it out loud..
What's the message?
Is this a plug for AMA?
Are you trolling for new members?
Does AMA want to buy ad space, do you need some click-throughs?
A good ad has a call to action. What is it that you want us to do?
Whats up Admin?
And as a total aside, You protect my right to ride....really? Seriously, really?

Someone from AMA could explain this better but as a ama member i offer the following.
Yep, the AMA lobbys congress on all motorcycle rights issues and funds watchdog folks who spot and opppose issues in the state legislatures that might restrict riders rights.

Is AMA fighting the bill trying to be passed in New york City which states bikes aren't alowwed to have loud pipes?...supposedly its a 1000 fine and a second offense they will take the bike away.I don't even know why I live here anymore!!!It sounds unconstitutional to me,but so are half of the other laws here...

The AMA is to motorcycling as the NRA is to guns.
Love 'em or hate 'em they fight for your rights.
What the AMA has done for YOU lately:
Fought your employer's health insurance from excluding your coverage while riding your motorcycle.
Fought municipalities from closing sections of road or town to motorcyclists that were paid for out of the general tax revenue.
Fought motorcycle specific noise laws (ensuring the laws are applied equally for all forms of transportation).
And many many many little tiffs with the government that single out motorcyclists.
So I guess it depends on your point of view. You want to ride and have that right protected, join the AMA for a common voice.
No organization is perfect but the AMA is the best we have for Motorcyclists.

You can thank the kids doing on the road stunts on sportbikes for the negative attention that brought the wheelie ban. You can't defend a person's "right to wheelie", that's immature, irresponsible riding. Other than that, I refuse to let our opponents divide and conquer, whatever you ride we are in this together.
Charter life AMA member here, certainly commend the work of ABATE and other groups as well.

We would get along, maybe we will meet on the road sometime.
My self and my son raced until he broke his back. He was paralyzed for a while but is now OK and could race but he decides to hunt and fish and ride my bikes for fun. Divorced now but I am a life member and so is son. AMA was important for us, and now that I'm ready to retire (read 50) I have decided to buy another Harley and life is good. I still race the vet class (RMZ 250's) and couldn't be happier. Kid is to be married in Oct and I hope I'm NOT a grandfather anytime soon. Just bought a fifthwheel to carry the dirtbikes and FatBoy and am just enjoying life.
Ready to try the tracks in Ca and the west coast.
Might even take up surfing again..........

I think the AMA does a lot more good than harm....if you want to describe "harm" as taking a stand against the loud pipes/throttle idiots and wheelie-freaks who are getting a lot of us hammered by association. While I do like a bit louder pipe than stock, I see no justification for way loud pipes/straight pipes and ridiculously dangerous riding behavior that some folks seem to think is somehow their right. We don't affect only ourselves.

I too am not in favor of excessively loud pipies but these v twins need to breathe as they are too lean. They need an air kit and pipe kit. The 416a law is screwed upwith flaws such as:: If your pipe is in need of replacement 416a says you must buy a oem pipe which may be more than twice the price of a aftermarket pipe .,,,if oem still makes the pipe. Eg an older bike or discontined bike may no longer have a oem replacement. Next accorking to 416a the epa stamp must be visible .. Try to find this on a bike with saddlebags good luck Even BMWs do not say whats required on the pipe and gold wings stamp is not visible as are most pipes . AMA is not protecting this unfair govt policy and is NOT proactive in this fight. Go to CCMS.com for further info or other groups like Abatewho are trying to end these unfair proposal
