The only problem would be that instead of just talking the idiots would be redialing and weaving. We used jammers in some applications for security. It interupts the ability to remote detonate a device. One thing for sure, cell phones are a f'n hazard and texting is worse. On a funnier note, the fastest growing reprted accident in emergency rooms is people walking into things while texting and walking. Thed walk into light poles, sign and in some cases open man holes

Cellphones are not a hazard, it's the idiots using them. Now I understand that sometimes, in an emergency it is neccessary, but thats not the case most of the time. Lately there has been a rise in people trying to text while driving...
That has to be the most idiotic thing to do. Cellphone companies made those Bluetooth headsets for a reason, to keep people from being distracted while dring and talking on the phone. I think it should be mandatory to have one for just that situation, but then again a majority of the American people would say that the Government should provide them... Hell the Federal Government is already providing cellphones, might as well throw that in too.

In working for the wireless communication industry, I too, still get annoyed w/ people driving while on the phone. Here in New Jersey, it is now illegal for doing it w/o some sort of hands-free device, and I'm sure all states will eventually follow this.
I get even more annoyed at law enforcement for 2 reasons: 1. They appear to ignore the law, and not enforce it. 2. I also see so may officers on their personal phones while patroling. Are they exempt from this law??
I obviously believe this is one of many distractions while driving, this one just seems like the 'hot topic' these days. And with the growing popularity of 'smart phones', and Blackberries, the issue has the abilty to grow even worse. If I were able to hand out a simple $10.00 headset to those soo ignorant to the law, I would! And let's not get too caught up in the 'blocker' devise. Then I would have to search out a new occupation!

I live in fear of the big SUV with a passel of kids and the driver texting away, slowly drifting into my lane. Which is why I purchased a 130 db air horn. Washington has a headset/handsfree law, too. But I don't think it really seems to help much, and it certainly isn't being enforced. What also gets me is the people with iPod headphones jammed into their ears while driving.

Actually, it isn't the hands on the phone while talking that causes the problem, it is the distraction of the actual conversation. Driver engrossed in conversation with the passenger can be just as bad.
I like the 130 db horn idea. However, most of the time when a horn in a car will do, I'm too busy trying to get the heck out the way to blow the horn on my bike.
Just be careful.
The laws really need to change to impune the cell phone user if they get into an accident. For instance, if you run a red light and kill someone, you're in trouble. If you were drunk when you did it, you're toast (or should be). Same idea with the cell phone.

Cell Phone Fines
Diggerpine here; Not to go off the beaten path, but ever since they passed a law in California that it was illegal to be talking on a hand-held cell phone, the state/county has been getting revenue from the fines. According to the information I read, a $20 fine for using a hand-held cell-phone will blossom into $103 after court costs, administration fees, etc. A lot of people are upset that they are told that the fine is $20 until they get to court to pay the fine. The $20 is just for the base cost of the fine, then it goes up from there. If you want to continue talking on a hand-held cell phone...It's gonna cost ya!

Well buddy, there have been several cases where an individual driving a car while talking on their phone have gotten into accidents. The cases where another individual got hurt have been really interesting. It seems that if a person is found to be talking on their phone while operating a motor vehicle and cause an accident hurting, or killing someone, they are subject to neglegance charges, and if the D.A. wants to, they can throw MANSLAUGHTER at them. In most cases they have not been severly punished, I have heard from 2 to 5 years in prison thrown around if it was a horrible enough scenario. I am like you, why not treat these idiots like a drunk driver.

It IS different than blaring the radio. It severely cuts the ability for other ambient sound to penetrate. Sounds waves expand quickly. When they are launched straight into your ear, the pressure is many times more severe than a radio at the same volume (output power).
It also reduces your hearing to a single dimension. Your ears are like your eyes: binocular vision provides the ability to judge depth; monocular vision does not.
Close your eyes and stand in the center of a room. Have a buddy clap his hands, and, without opening your eyes, point in the direction of the clap. No problem. Now plug one ear and repeat. You'll lose most, if not all, of your ability to identify the direction of the source of the clap. It takes both ears to discern direction, just as it takes both eyes to discern depth.

WoW you're pretty smart for a biker... Thats alot of information, I understand what you are saying, but regardless, I do not use high volumes when it is in my ear, and yes it does change the way you hear things, but I will still do it. I won't make excuses, I won't lie and say you've changed my mind, I am gonna be straight up and say that I will continue to listen to it.. But thank you for that info.

You would be a good candidate for one of those little Ipod thingies with the two little speakers... you can find them on sale at walmart for about $20.
