Several people asked me if I was going to stop riding after I wrecked in July, starting with some of the staff in the hospital. I laughed at everyone and told the hospital staff that as soon I got home I would get on another of my bikes. I was definitely more cautious on the first ride, but it felt great to be back on a bike.

I survived a bad marriage but that didn't stop me from marrying my present wife. I almost drowned surfing but I didn't give up surfing. I almost killed myself water skiing but I didn't give that up. I got in a few car accidents but I didn't give up driving. I got the crabs one time but I didn't give up sex. I could go on but you get the picture.

I think i'm going with an 09' Red Hot Denim Streetglide. Blacking out the front end and engine guard, Screamin' Eagle heavy breather air cleaner, black LSR 2-1 exhaust, and either a PC or SE Race Tuner.

I can't imagine doing anything else. The two things I love the most are my wife & riding. Losing her would be awful. Losing them both would be like dying myself.

(Paraphrased) that's what they say, "fall off a horse, get up, dust yourself off, and get right back in the saddle".
Why would anyone want to force their negative opinion on something most riders consider more than a hobby? Because, they feel the need to exercise a mammalian maternal instinct and protect others from harm.
Take M-A-D-D for instance; not that I condone or participate in drunken driving/riding, but the "mothers" of this nation have been censoring our lives constantly and incessantly. H3LL, they even tried to take my rock & roll from me and now I have to shop for my music somewhere other than Wally-World to get the Parental Advisory lyrics...ridiculous.
From my soapbox, I say FU** ALL THAT and LET'S RIDE. I'm glad that you're okay and welcome back to the two-wheeled world.
FTW

Glad to hear you're going to get back in the saddle. I didn't fair quite so well after my accident, and despite all the nay-sayers, I knew I'd be riding again, it's what I do.
I also didn't remember much of the accident afterwards. However, with time, and as I talked to people about it, the details started to come back. I'm still missing from the "I might save this" portion to the laying on my side looking for my bike portion.
ride on!

The non-riding crowd always seems to think that as soon as you have an accident or someone that you know get hurt riding that you'll come to your senses and stop playing around with those darn fooled two wheeled things.
Whenever someone brings this up I always ask if they or anyone they know has been in an auto accident, and if so, then did they give up driving their cars?
No they don't... so why do they think we should give up riding our bikes.
Anyway, have fun bike shopping.

First, I know what your going through, I was there a year ago, I was down at the dealer the same day, waited for the official totaling of my bike, I was already dealing with the bank to get the next one.
I had another bike withing a couple weeks, had to wait for one I ordered.
My wife knew better then to say anything, she knew I would not give it up, and all the rest of my friends here, well they ride....and were supportive to me.
Don't talk to your non-riding friends, they simply will not get it.

guy in my church crashed his bike twice. after the second one, called the pastor's wife and told her he was selling it. shows up at church one Wednesday night about 2 months after the second crash on a new RK. HUGE grin on his face.
I've got a Harley T-shirt that has a front logo on the pocket that says, "If I have to explain, you won't understand".
that says it all for me.

Glad you're OK and still wanting to ride!
If someone gives up riding after they go down, then either it isn't important enough for them to risk their lives for, or the experience was SO bad that they just can't do it, which I can respect.
I figure I'd rather croak doing something I love, like riding, rather than die on my couch choking on a pretzel...

Glad you're OK
I'm glad you're not seriously injuried and still have the love of riding. When I went down a few years ago, I tried to find a way to work the clutch with my arm in a cast. After the cast came off, it still took months to learn to comfortably work the clutch through the scar tissue, but I never considered giving up riding. I hope you enjoy the experience of finding and buying your new ride.
