Goldwing Story
So I got to visit my cardiologist today. It's a long story which I won't bother you with, suffice to say everything's okay with me.
But I found out before the doc came in from his nurse practitioner that he rode. She thought he rode a Harley too. In an effort to take my mind off the visit, I of course brought up the subject of motorcycles when the doc came in a few minutes later. After all, it always takes my mind off of my troubles.
Well it turns out he rides a Road King, but what is more interesting is the way he came to own it. He originally owned a Softail Custom. But his riding friends talked him into a Goldwing before a long trip to Florida. Well he got somewhere near San Antonio and stopped at a hotel for the night. Something about a sloped parking spot and being short while the bike is tall, and well he ended up under the bike as he came to a stop. Furthermore disgusted with the sound and lack of "soul" that a Harley has, he'd had enough by the time they got to somewhere in Louisiana.
He pulled into a Harley dealer, traded off the GW and headed off to Florida on his new RK. Okay, so he's a RUB, but he's obviously a smart one and likes to ride.
It must be good to be a doc!

It really just sounds like he ended with a bike that fit him better...not a matter of handling......just a more fullfiling experience for him!
If you can't enjoy it.....Why do it?

As long as he's happy, more power to him. Wonder what kind of beating he took on the new GW in a trade?
The thing about a GW is when I'm next to one I can't tell if it is running.

Essentially but more to it than that. Easy dog, no offense intended.

Shoot, when I STARTED mine I couldn't tell if it was running!
I got a very good trade on mine when I got my Ultra, so it held its value well. Can't complain!

The fit, the sound and just overall feel of a Harley.

He's a doctor with a thriving practice, I don't think he cared.

claytpi So he had a rub shirt on?? Or is he a rub because he's a doctor,or because he traded for a harley? There are a heck of alot of people that don't ride everday that are more of a rider than some that think they are. I to happen to be to short to enjoy the new model wings but have had one in the past and wish i still had it . I have almost always also had a hd in the garage for the last 26 years but would still love to have a last model wing to park next tp it . Nothing harley has will cover the same amount of miles a day with as comfy as a wing or run with it. But i still love my hd. Someone that would knock a guy for what he rides is closer to a r.u.b. than he might care to believe. Some of the best riders in have know'n only really get to ride when it can be worked into there busy schedules.

Don't take me so seriously hardluk. Your description above of some people and yourself fits me quite well with the only exception being that I've not owned a GW.
I ride when I can and I don't care what others ride. If they're happy on their ride, so am I.

I have a 96 fxr now ,find i can ride like i use to and it just kills a good day some times but would still like to find a CHEAP 99 or older wing . I can get both feet on the ground ,can't on the new type like most everthere brand on the market it would seem.Always wanted a bmw ,older but same darn problem,to short of leg . I probably meet more bull **** riders on darn harleys in the last 10 years than ever. Just got to have a 18,000 dollar + bike just to ride local on with all the whole store on there back. I always rode with who ever wanted to ride and i have watched some of the local hd boys change ride times or meeting places to have there (group) together with out the other bikes so i do get furred up with i see someone talk R.U.B.. One of the best riders back in florida had a old like new honda 750 he road when work alowed and on some weekend rides but had a maxed out ultra in the garage for touring only. Got it out maybe once every other month and would put 3 or 4000 miles on it. The guy i sold my house to use to ride a yamaha and bought a glide to ride and we road ever weekend ,loaded up the wifes and haul butt . His wife got sick ,sold the glide and after a couple years of overtime and no riden went out and bought a used but new model wing . I now live in NC . That sucker now ride twice the milage but only about 1/4 as much. Still moon lighting. I just don't think much of someone that slams a ride with out atleast try'n something, open minded first. I can't understand sportbikes but it ain't the bikes that bother me. I would love to try one but my fat ass don't fit, can't get my feet and the pegs to match up. How much horse power your bike make'n 130+,my 05 95" was pull'n 118 with basani road rage and 3 less with a more streetable exhaust.

You sound a bit defensive.......
He is a rub if he is
1. Rich Which sounds right from the description
2. Urban Don't know if lives in an urban envirment but good chance he does
3. Biker Yes he rides a bike!
TaDa!!! There you have it. I don't think being a rub is a bad thing. Those that do seem to have a chip on shoulder.
I on the other hand .....am a PUB...
1. Poor
2. Urban
3. Biker
Yeah......I would much rather be a RUB.

If I had the money I would have a Goldwing to go with the Road KIng. If you want to travel in comfort I really prefer the GL1800 w/ the Russell seat . I can ride for hours and hours and hours in rocking chair comfort.
The RK is great for around town and trips under a couple hundred miles.
Just my 2cents

Don't we have enough of these threads going? I like having fun on here too, but do we have to post a new "real biker" thread on here every week?

I feel that somebody who trades a wing for a harley is not a real cardiologist.
I traded a bmw for my ultra and i have no formal medical training whatsoever.
