Help! bike running rough

Please bear with me while I lay out this tale of woe. It helps me get my mind clear before I take the bike in!

I have an 07 EGC. It's had a bad tranny, new bearings and output shaft, a broken bolt causing loss of the right passenger footboard, and a bad tourpac latch. That's the official repair history.

It's been in for cutting out completely below 40 degrees. When this happens I just cycle the ignition or kill switch and keep on going. It happens only once in the first 10 miles. The bike is garage kept so it is not cold soaked. And when it is that cold I do allow a 5 minute warm up time before riding. In both cases it was blamed on a faulty O2 connector.

It has been stuttering for a while and the dealer can't find the problem. My only mod was to install a Fuelmoto power package of AC, mufflers and PCIII. I have removed the AC and PCIII. Thinking that the mufflers could not be causing the problem.

It was doing this before the install. I was going to hold off on the install when I found the rear plug wire not on all the way. AHA I've found the problem, WRONG.

One day it got worse after I tanked up and I figured I got bad gas. I put in Octane booster, Heet, and Stabil and it helps but the stumble is still there.

The bike is not only my daily driver but my only wheels. So maybe you can understand my predicament.

Any and all useful suggestions would be helpful, and no I can't get rid of it, too unside down.

Also the problem seems to get worse as the bike getts hotter. Afternoons anre worse than mornings.

I think the ECM has issues, does anyone else agree?

I don't think the ECM would be going bad without the scoot throwing a code or two.........To me again, this would seem to be a fuel problem.....(problem getting the fuel into the cylinders).....My '03 had a broken injector wire, so there were no codes.
Check your wiring harness by jiggling it while running.
The posts about getting a new service dept sure help, don't they?

Can you do a compression test? Mine was having similar problems including backfire on decel. I had a burnt valve.

Chalk up another vote for another wrench!! If it's still under warranty, get it to another authorized H-D service guy.

BTW there is an issue with an O ring in the fuel pump assembly that's deteriorating from the ethanol in gas. It allows air to be sucked into the fuel system and causes the symptoms you describe. To date it's mostly on the '08s and some '09s.

Check out the other threads - there's an issue with the fuel filter cracking on '08s; probably not your problem, but good info.

Best of luck!!

You hit it! A broken wire right where the wire entered the pin on the rear injector connector! It was broken inside the insulation.

Got the bike bike running great. AC and PCIII reinstalled, I removed them during troubleshooting. Nirvana!!!

Scrubs is reading this now saying WTF is this?
Congratulations!

Man, is this place great or what? I'm happy that you've found your problem with the Electra; and even happier that the wrenches here in this forum was the reason.

Puts my faith back in the quality of V-Twins and V-Twin forum.

I say trade it in for an 09, or better yet accidently push it off a cliff so nobody else gets stuck with it. That bike is obviously cursed.
