What would you have done?

Hi all.

Ok, today was the memorial day ride, and I go rain or shine, today was rain.:usa1

Slick streets, and a slow ride there, I had no problems, until we lined up to park.
The Police has a whole curb set aside for us, and as we lined up to park, I waited for my turn to back in, as i was slowly backing in, the guy next to me, slipped and drop his bike........right on to mine.:doh

Well I killed mine and helped him pick his up, paul is in my HOG club, and has been riding since 1957....he does 15K a year, not a rub at all.

Well, my bike got a paint nick in the right bag, about the size of the tip of your finger, right on the lower outer corner.

We got back to the dealership for lunch, I had the collision gal look at it, she said it would cost more to have it painted (Due to the color I have) then to buy a new bag lower.
She said it would be like $400ish, and take 4-8 weeks to get it.nhead

I then went to the the parts counter and asked about touch up paint...$22.10.

I told Paul that the paint would be just fine, and we would be even.

So.......do you think I was wrong or did I do the right thing here?
What would you have done?:confused

Fello rider? Lower corner? No reason to hurt the guy.

You did what I would have done.

Stick street and the jiffy stand snapped back on him, went down instead of on the stand.

Just a accident.

You ate the damage a little, but in my opinion you did the right thing especially considering how long you knew the guy and the circumstances. You lost out on a little money, but you didnt lose a friend.

I'm sure Paul feels horrible. I know I would. Sounds like just an accident, in the truest sense of the word. Your OK, He's OK. Sometimes bad thing just happen to good people.

I would have done exactly what you did. Even if I didn't know the guy really well. You are a good person. Now, did he spring for the paint?

Yes he offered to pay for the touch up paint, and I said that would be fine. Of course, it has to be ordered.

Typical Harley, if it ain't Vivid black, it's not in stock.

Your dealer stocks paint? Ours only stocks clothes and chrome goodies.

Sounds fair to me, 'cept the rape-job of $22 for the touch-up by the dealer, damn....

Why I'd do what any other bad-a$$ biker on this forum would do... I'd whip out the .44 and put two rounds into his sorry ass.

(Now isn't that the response you would get if it had been some kid on a crotch rocket that you didn't know?)

had a bandmember's bass fall off it's stand into my LesPaul once.....tuning key took a hunk out of the neck.......didn't even offer to have it repaired........(never mentioned it to him, but he's no longer a bandmate)......it's amazing how the smallest blemish on something you love means so much......especially when YOU didn't cause it........

as said before, you done good.......handled the way "real" people should handle things......
