Laquer thinner is a witches brew. Not all are the same it could be a blend of acetone mek toluline. I am wondering if what you are smearing around is the hard surface coating on the windshield. I would consider using a plastic polish to see if that might start clearing up that spot.

I'ts way heavier than that. I think the acitone was a mistake. It melted the heavystuff and it smeared . I had had luck polishing out gouges and scratches on sport bikes but when I tried the same procedure on my detachable the tinting was on not in the plastic. Wet or dry sanding took away the tint. If I knew the tint was in the polymere, I could sand and polish it out. In fact, does anyone have the answer to that. That would solve everything if the whole piece is full of tint.

Ok, I picked up an 84 FXRT to fix up and sell. I'll list it today or tomorrow. The deal is, the guy taped the for sale sigh to the windshield with scotch tape leaving a lot of glue and tape remnants when removed. I've tried everything I know and then some but still have this mess. Here is what I tried; wd-40 usually works, lighter fluid/naptha, heat, spray carb cleaner after a test patch goo gone. None of these things even fazed it. It still feels raised from the surface. I'm out of Ideas any one?

Isopropyl alcohol, preferably the 90% if you can find it. It's safe on plastics, and don't spread the residue that it breaks up. Dab it with a good soak, and lift it off. Kinda reminds ya when you were a kid and had your immunization shots.

I have used the Ace-IT Scratch Remover on my windshield to remove gummy crap and it worked great.
