Progressive Insurance very disturbing!

I called Progressive to see what insurance would be on a new '08 RG. My record blah, blah is perfect. Anyway the Ins for a new 08 would be 150 bucks cheaper than my 04. That don't make no sense I got my original policy direct from Progressive, so you thinK you're getting the best deal

$700.00 for my '04.

Called an Agent...got better coverage for $325.00 both for a year.(through Progressive)

Called Progressive back and told them the dealio, and they said they wrote Insurance through 2 diff. companies, and that my original Insurance was through progressive "direct", and the new lower quote was through "Progressive", I said what's the diff? They said diff. companies cause of California and all that. ( Whenever someone is screwing you it's because I'm in CA)

I told them I wanted some $$$ back for sticking it to me for the past year or so, and they told me to pound sand. Anyway...though some of you might find this interesting.

I pay $668.00 for full coverage on three bikes, and $5,000.00 in acc. coverage on each bike per year through Formost.

I tried to get a Quote from Progressive and they wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of a 2 grand to match what I have, I told them to stick it, and stayed with formost.

This will differ from state to state, but I got the best deal from GEICO here in Georgia. Progressive still has my car insurance because nobody can touch them there, but GEICO gave me the same coverage for half the cost. I have full coverage on two bikes and pay around $700 per year.

Interesting...here's my story and it's a little like yours:

When I traded in my '05 Suzuki for an '07 Road King I was insuring the suzuki with Progressive. I got quotes with Progressive online and via phone to just keep my same policy but replace the suzuki with the new harley. It seemed the new premiums were kind of high.

My salesman at the HD dealer told me to go with Harley Insurance. He mentioned that Harley uses Progressive, but through Harley it might be chaeaper. Huh? I was confused, but I gave it a try.

Getting Progressive through Harley saved me over $200 a year!
My proof of insurance and all my insurance contracts/documents still read Progressive, but I went through Harley and saved some money.

When I questioned a Harley rep and then a Progressive rep about this issue, they both said the same thing: They claim that because Harley has an agreement with Progressive the customers going through Harley usually get better rates than someone just going directly to Progressive.

Progressive was far cheaper than anyone else even before the $200 savings going through Harley so my choice was easier after the discount.

I went through HD insurance too but the company name is Markel. I don't remember exactly what I pay but it's pretty good and is actually lower than last year with more coverage.

You just have to shop around.

the cheapest insurance, it was that Progressive said they had two companies. One was progressive direct through the internet, and one is Progressive that you can get through an agent at half the price!! To me, that's fraud.

If the consumer thinks they're getting the best deal Progressive offers...it should be the best deal progressive can give you. Instead their margins are better if you contact them directly. They write the policies through two different Companies.

I'll be contacting the Insurance Commissioner...

OK Budda ...that's interesting. So the point is, why do they use one particular underwriter over another? When you contact Progressive, why don't they look at the pool and provide the best rate?

Bottom line is contacting Progressive directly is a hazard to your pocketbook.

Hit the same wall with Progressive, they wanted like $1600 or something outrageous to insure my 07 FXDB. GEICO did it for about $334. Maybe they just use a random number generator for rates!

I want rid of Progressive for my truck next cheap there or not. They tried to rip me...

I do not know why they use mutilple underwrites? You claim that it's fraud. They clearly mention the use of several UW's. It is not their obligation to provide the "best" rate for you. You have the option to go with rate that they offer or go with someone else. All they would have to do is show ANY change in you status ie. FICO score and justify a differnt rate. If you feel that strongly contact the Insurance Commision and let us know how it goes.(not trying to be a smarta$$)

For ANY company if you don't get agood feeling get ing quotes form them how due you think you'll get treated processing a claim?

Man you guys in California are really getting the shaft. I know location has a BIG part in costs.

Fico scores in California to determine rates. Also, I realize they don't have to provide the "best rate" that's whats troubling...They SHOULD because they can...also I didn't see any disclosures about various underwriting as I moved through their website...even so the average person would not know what that meant in relation to their rates.

As far as claims are concerned..several guys have had claims, and been very happy.

Thought about commissioner...got other stuff to do, but wanted to put forth this info
